I have a suspicion that when you use the word "socialism" you're thinking of some Marxist/Leninist/Stalinist/Maoist sort of thing; I'm thinking of something no more alarming than G.B. Shaw and those folks. Socialism has a richer history than what got digested and spat out by people too impatient to recognise native human intelligence.
