  1. What I'm saying is the packaging of albums lends itself to enjoyable perusal, whereas cd packaging (or obviously the lack of packaging altogether) doesn't.

Flipping through a record collection is fun to do, even if you're not looking for something to buy or listen to. On the other hand, the only reason to look through a cd collection is to find something to listen to.

Agreed. I haven't looked through a CD rack in years. Every city I go to for shows I seek out the local record shop and have a field day perusing their selections and always come home with lot's of gems. I do the same at home but i have been through all their collections numerous times. Well maybe not legend records cause they have a very extensive collection and I don't like their prices on a lot of stuff i want. I can usually find it cheaper online. But they do have an impressive collection.

  2. I get what you guys are saying about going into a record store and finding that gem and just the nostalgia behind it talking them down. I never pay full price . I enjoy it too. But i do the same thing online. Even if it's two dollars cheaper it's still 2 bucks towards another record. I have become an avid collector and once something hits my radar that i need to have i won't stop until I have it. I am saying try your hands at finding that record in Germany that you have been looking for forever for a cheap ass price for example. I get the same kind of gratification. Or finding it all for that matter. My latest conquest is Tom Waits Bone Machine that was pressed in Germany and only released in the UK briefly then they shut down production. the cheapest i have found for was 300 on eBay but i am not willing to pay that. So the search continues. I will get it for under 100. just have to be persistent and patient :)

  3. agreed. I think compact will make it though. They don't gauge their prices and listen to their customers and they sell a lot of records and Cd's. Ian's been in the business since 74. he will do ok. the downtown store maybe not. but gleebe is rocking. On the online searching aspect is like digging through records at a record shop for me. When i find that one record for a great deal somewhere in California i get the same gratification as finding it while flipping at a store. Also when i find it cheaper then anywhere in town. I finished my grateful dead and phish vinyl catalogue this year and it didn't cost me an arm and a leg. But it did take hours and hours of searching them out. But i loved doing it on my free time when i am not busy at work. Ya you may be right. I don't see too many youth into records, it's mostly 30's generation for the most part that i mostly see. I hope they stay open. I think the key also is getting into other things. Like their tent at bluesfest and record shows?

  4. yes online record shopping is really great especially when it's something nobody else has in a shop in town. It's like i can shop at shops all over the world. Which is great. I have become friends with the guys at compact music so i just tell them what i can get a certain album for online or at another shop in town and they always beat it. But their is stuff they will never get which is why i love online shopping for. I think end hits problem is they weren't very nice people. At least the few times i their, I am sure people had positive experiences their. When i went in their i was lucky if they said hello. And tried to order things a few times and they just never called me back or any follow through. So i gave up shopping their. I agree with the convenience of shopping at home. And i love getting packages it's like christmas :). The Cd's and mp3's with vinyl is indeed awesome. Too good.

  5. lets see some new bluegrass this year. And I dont mean newgrass, I mean a different bluegrass artist. I know: GRISMAN QUINTET!!

Or how about moe. headlining the hardrock stage-- boy oh boy, that would be fun!

if david grisman came i would loose my lid. Saw him for the first time this year at bonnaroo. and i need much more. Del Mccoury too. And why not mearl haggard while they are at it. :)

  7. Yes Myself and Nyree started raclletting a few years ago then just had to go buy our own. It's most def a winter activity. So good!!!. Can't wait to bring it out soon. :)

  8. Yes they are good, Compact are the ones that have the cd tents at blues fest and jazz fest and Ian the owner says business is going really well these days. But you should go see Ian in the glebe store more often then downtown; his prices smash his downtown stores prices for whatever reason and often times i get stuff cheaper their then i can find online. The arcade fire LP funeral downtown is 22.99. I got it for 18.99 at the glebe store. String cheese incident trick or treat 34 downtown 19.99 at the glebe. lol. Don’t know why they don't compare prices. Maybe cause its two different markets of clientele. I have talked to Ian and Meg about it and they don't really care. They are going to keep their prices as is.

Thanks Prost that site you gave me is cool. They are higher priced then buycdnow.ca on some of the stuff I am interested in. But they also have stuff that I can't find in stores around here or for a reasonable price online. The more resources I have the cheaper my hunt for records is. Thanks for the link. I always price check all my sources before I buy. If it’s very rare I just make a decision on spot. Have you been to the record centre on wellington AD? That guy always has great used records and his prices can’t be beat!!! Rob

  9. Hey, not sure if anyone buys from these guys but they have a great selection of cd's, vinyl and books, alot of the vinyl i have to special order ussualy from ottawa stores and it can take weeks to months to get after the release date or can only find in the usa. Like widspread panic vinyl etc. They are a distributor from montreal so shipping fees are harldy anything and no customs. Anyways i was happy to find this site. enjoy. buycdnow.ca ps. if anyone knows of any other great canadian retailors or us for that matter if they are really cheap for vinyl with great prices etc pass on the info. Thanks

  10. I don't know these guys. Listened to them and want to check them out. I can buy these two albums on vinyl. Which do you guys recommend or should i get both. Thanks
