  1. Tonin got the covers right, though I would like to listen back to the Hendrix song as I didn't catch King Crimson's "Red," during the song. If that was the case, nice ear.

Though I don't look at the King Crimson songs as covers as Tony Levin was cowrote the songs with the other members in the band.

And in a sense I don't look at the Peter Gabriel songs as covers either as Levin, Jerry Marotta and Larry Fast were all involved in the recording of "On the Air" and Levin was involved in the recording of "Don't Give Up."

  3. One of the worst or best examples (depending on how you look at it?) of a great talent being taken from this planet far too early.

Yep' date=' he was only 30!

And his dad, Tim Buckley, also a musician, died on JUNE 29, 1975 at the age of 28.

If you haven't done so already, read the book "Dream Brother", based around the lives of both Jeff and Tim Buckley written posthumously by David Browne.[/quote']

Thanks for the heads up, I will look into that book.

Yes it was also sad about his father Tim Buckley, both were taken far too early.

Jeff Buckley you sang like an angel and I hope you are enjoying Heaven singing with the angels.

  5. Billboard reports that Stevie Nicks will be opening for and performing with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers for Petty's first eight gigs.

I don't know if Stevie Nicks will be slipped in before Petty as an opener at bonnaroo, but at very least I hope she comes out on stage with Petty that night to perform "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around," "Insider" and/or "Needles and Pins."

Stevie Nicks Joins Opening Leg Of Petty Tour

    Stevie Nicks

    May 26, 2006, 11:00 AM ET

    Clover Hope, N.Y.

Rock star Stevie Nicks will open the first eight shows on Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' Highway Companion tour, which kicks off June 9 at the Verizon Amphitheatre in Charlotte, N.C.

Nicks' performances include two shows in Virginia and a June 20 stop in New York's Madison Square Garden. Her final appearance on the outing will be the June 21 gig at the Tweeter Center in Mansfield, Mass. Nicks is scheduled to perform a selection of songs with Petty.

Former Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio will also support the first eight shows, which will be followed by six double-bills with Pearl Jam through July 2-3 in Denver.

The second leg of the tour in July and August features the Allman Brothers Band and the Derek Trucks Band. Opening acts for the third leg in September, which includes a Sept. 17 headlining appearance at the Austin City Limits Festival, have yet to be announced.

  6. thank you burnt for an honest report on the show....

i'm still heading there tonight, but i dont want to have my expectations too high.

    Hey secondtube,

I hope by your above comment that you are not insinuating that I was not giving an honest report on my feelings of the show?

I respect the opinion of burnt, though I believe anyone who is going to the gig tonight that are fans of Tony Levin's work with Peter Gabriel and King Crimson will not be disappointed with the new material off of 'RESONATOR.'

Several tracks with vocals like "Break it Down" and "Crisis of Faith" have a Discipline vibe that any fan of King Crimson should enjoy. And another "Fragile as a Song" is directly influenced by an interesting time he spent with Peter Gabriel.

That being said compared to Tony's last tour with the Tony Levin Band there are a lot less songs that are instrumentals, so if Burnt went with the intention of seeing mostly instrumentals I can see why he would be disappointed.

  7. Expect a 47 minute set with abolutely no acknowledgement that you as fans even exist. Have fun!

I couldn't count how many times I've been to a jamband related act that didn't acknowledge the crowd.

When did it become necessary that an artist kiss the crowds ass to put on a good performance?

    Tim

  8. Then lay out your $150 and put your money where your mouth is.

    Hey \/\/illy,

Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed today?

Maybe I'm wrong but it seems like you want to throw down?

You know I'll be at the gig. When do I post something about an on sale and not plan on attending the show that I just posted about?

    Tim

  9. I have a bootleg of the last T.O. show (thanks qqc!) and it's definitely longer than forty-seven minutes. And really, it's Van Morrison, a musician I have liked my whole life who's not dead. That kicks ass. There aren't too many of those. Seeing him play the spoons would be exciting to me.

    Well said.

I always say, I would listen to Van Morrison sing the phone book.

What a voice, what a songwriter, Van "The Man."

    Tim

  10. Hey \/\/illy,

I know Van "the Man" Morrison can be a little hit and miss when it comes to him being in a good mood on stage.

That being said it was a bit of an exaggeration to say that his last show in Toronto at the Molson Amphitheatre was only 47 minutes long. As you know I time each and every gig I go to with a stop watch and I don't have my notepad off hand, but I guarantee the show length was over ninety minutes.

Also I have seen Van Morrison command an audience with such passion and delivery that you would think you were at a James Brown concert. I have seen Van Morrison on multiple occasions send my spirit soaring "into the mystic" one could say, and I won't pass up an opportunity to see him do that for me again.

Granted that didn't happen that night at the Molson Amphitheatre, but who's to say it won't happen at the Air Canada Centre this time around?

And finally even a sub par performance by Morrison in my humble opinion is better than nearly any other vocalist that has ever walked this earth.

    Tim

  11. Hey theGoodRev,

Yes I believe I saw a taper there, though I'm not completely sure?

At very least not the Tony Levin Band allows people to take pictures at their gig. Not like King Crimson who because of Robert Fripp would stop in mid song to tell people to stop taking pictures.

BTW I don't know if you know this but your article in the View is up on Tony Levin's website.

    Tim

  12. The Tony Levin Band last night in Toronto was absolutely a mind blowing experience. The caliber of musicianship in Levin's band is not often found on one stage at one time.

I feel lucky and privileged that I get to attend the show again tonight in Hamilton.

Tony asked me when I did the interview (Found on the News Page on this site) not to reveal the setlist until after the gigs were completed, so I will abide by his wishes and will not put up any spoilers to any that will be attending the gig tonight at the Corktown.

I hope to see all of you there tonight!

    Tim

  13. Hello Everybody,

I just interviewed Tony Levin for his upcoming Canadian dates with the Tony Levin Band.

The interview can be found on Jam News/Main Index page of this site.

I only set it up the day before the interview and since the first show is tomorrow night in Montreal I was pressed to get it out as quickly as possible, so I hope it turned out fine (Thanks to ollie for putting it up and posting the pictures on it).

I will be at two of the three Tony Levin Band shows (Toronto and Hamilton) so I hope to see you all at one or the other or both.

From what Tony told me the set will be fantastic and any fan of Peter Gabriel, King Crimson or progressive rock should be there to see one of the worlds greatest bassists perform with an amazing band.

    Tim

  14. HOLY SHIT!!!!!! $480US for 2 tickets in the 100's is just fucking rediculous. I was psyched about my pull until I went to check out. Unless they're planning on doing the entire Dark Side Of The Moon album for their second set that is...

I think that's going to happen at another concert at a later date at the Air Canada Centre?

I hope CSNY plays all of Neil Young's new album 'Living with War.'

    Tim

  15. I can't make the Ann Arbor gig, but I wish I could. The last Stephen Stills album was quite good and I would love to see him perform a forty-five minute solo acoustic set.

Stills Touring Solo Before CSNY Reunion

    Steven Stills

    May 02, 2006, 11:00 AM ET

    John Benson, Cleveland

While fans are abuzz about the upcoming Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young Freedom of Speech tour, Stephen Stills says he's very much looking forward to greeting them as a solo act on a brief tour this month in support of his 2005 album, "Man Alive!"

"We have a really interesting show," Stills tells Billboard.com. "It's very old school, like what I used to do. We play 'Helplessly Hoping' with the band and then they leave and I'm out there for 45 minutes by myself with a songbook and basically the vibe of the crowd is going to tell me which ones to play. We'll kind of make it up. It will be a little different every night."

That songbook is filled with more than 300 titles, allowing Stills to cherry pick from his entire career. Joining the artist on stage will be longtime drummer/collaborator Joe Vitale, as well as organist Mike Finnigan and bassist Kevin McCormick.

Stills says he expects to bookend this mini 11-day, six-show tour, which begins tomorrow (May 3) in Minneapolis, with a West Coast swing in the fall. A concert DVD release is due out later this year.

"['Man Alive!'] was specifically designed to be able to play live," Stills says. "I wanted lots of air. It'll be the easiest DVD because a lot of the vocal performances were live." While a few of the new album's tracks were played during the most recent CSN tour, Stills says, "Because there were too many people on the stage, we couldn't get close to the groove."

As for the Freedom of Speech trek, Stills admits the outfit was hoping to hit the road a few years ago but Neil Young's 2003 "Greendale" album kept the foursome from touring at that time.

There was also talk of a new CSNY project but as Stills reveals, "Neil turns around and gets hopping mad and says, 'You have to come up and play with me when you get back from vacation,'" Stills says. "And by the time I got back from 10 days in Mexico, he had not only written enough for a new album, he had recorded a new album ['Living With War']. God bless him. I've read the lyrics and he's right on the money."

Stills has a politically charged song of his own that he may put out to coincide with the Freedom of Speech tour. "It's called 'Cry Traitor,' which I may just let the Internet take because it fits with the theme of the tour," Stills says. "'So you wanna cry traitor every time we disagree.' That's what they tend to do."
