  1. I can't even imagine what it would be like to experience that music being introduced to the world in real time.

I suppose I'm one of the few folks around here old enough to have actually been around when The Beatles hit...and Marco has summed it up quite nicely. What The Beatles were doing musically and otherwise was absolutely mind blowing. No question that they raised popular music to a level it had never been before and were at the forefront of a cultural revolution that was historical in its impact.

Having said that, we must remember that The Beatles were not operating in a total wasteland. Musically, in many ways, it was the genius of Buddy Holly that in the beginning set the stage for the Beatles and the whole British invasion thing. That fact is too often overlooked.

  2. Just an update on the opener for Saturday nite. Looks like it's going to be Major Grange which is a band made up of current members of the Golden Dogs.

Suffice it to say that there will be some variation of past and present Golden Dogs handling the opening slot.

    Shoulda got Stupendous Bill hehehe

hey NewRider thanks for the call out. I'll tell the boys to get their butts down to Brantford and I'll tell them to watch thier butts in Windsor, meggo. Appreciate the support folks.

  3. This Friday night (May 11) The Spades will be at the Avalon Front in Windsor. Opening will be Thomas Lunch from Washington D.C.

Saturday night (May 12) they will be at the Rivoli in Toronto. Opening will be the 6ixty 8ights who are fronted by Carlin Nicholson who used to be with The Golden Dogs. Fun band! This show is being filmed as part of an upcoming profile on The Spades.

Sunday night (May 13) The Spades will be part of a multi-band billing at Port Mansion in Port Dalhousie. The Junction and Charlemagne are also part of the bill.

I'd love to make it out to all the shows, but that's not possible. I will be at the Rivoli show. Stupendous Bill, however, will not be.

  4. The writer lays out some interesting points not the least of which is the one that the album (a collection of loosely related songs) is no longer the primary unit by which music is transferred from the artist to the fan. He's right (although many of us raised on albums still prefer our music in that format).

Seems to me, that what will happen in the near future is that fans who still want albums by their favourite artists will create their own (much like we do in Marco's Legendary 12 Song Album game). From a number of tunes posted by the artist, we will select 10 - 12 songs to download.

What we will pay the artist for is the cover for our album. When our cover arrives by mail (or email?) we will put it with the tunes and have our album.

Maybe this is already being done. Maybe it's crazy. I dunno.

  5. Funny when I watched this the other day, I thought the interviewer came off as the ass.

He opens with 2 questions about her music (one of which is stupid - "Did you do it in Latin") and then immediately jumps to perfume which has no connection to anything, but he claims to be "good food for thought" and then moves onto her marriage which is only really a set-up for his joke about the smell of eggs. Then he concludes with the highly relevant "Can you make strange gutteral animal noises?" I don't know what Avril is capable of, but I thought this guy got exactly what he deserved.
