Best. Spoiler. Ever.

That said' date=' there's more than enough potential for a great 5 day pass or if the stars align and most of the shit I want to see falls on 3 days then even better. [/quote']
There is no 5-day pass option this year. Was there last year? I think there was.
My co-worker was excited when she was me this morning. Couldn't wait to tell me she's getting the full pass this year...she's a country music fan and there are big country acts this year, according to her.
Starting Thursday, March 27 at 10:00 am (EDT) until Friday, March 28 at midnight, the Early Bird sale will include Full Festival Wristbands, Youth Full Festival Wristbands and Pick 3 dates Wristbands. Starting on Saturday, March 29 at 10:00 am (EDT), the general on-sale will include the three ticket types available during the early bird sale, as well as Pick 5 dates Wristbands, Day Passes, Metropolitain Gold Circle passes and wristbands, Empire Grill Clubhouse passes and wristbands. Subject to availability, and prices will be released on Saturday.
Good stuff, the pick 5 was a nice touch last year, glad they stuck with it.

So I (and Freak By Night, I assume) am the only person who thinks this looks great?!?!
$20 a day, I'd have a not bad time at:
Don Felder
Traffic
Matt Anderson
Pink Mountaintops
Procol Harum w/ NACO
JJ Grey & Mofro
Gogol Bordello
Deltron 3030
Violent Femmes
DBT
Dr. Hook
Jeff Tweedy
Styx
John Mayall
Foreigner
Blondie (!)
Trombone Shorty
Gary Clark Jr.
BNL
Journey
Lady Gaga
Queens of the Stone Age
Like, c'mon now, that's not a bad pile of music for me to ride my bike to. Plus they have more to announce. Did I read somewhere that they were holding back a biggie until April? Maybe still a Beck or Boss or Neil Young to come?
Anyway, looking forward to seeing you all there.
And yes, Jazzfest is better, as is becoming the norm. Which is pretty awesome when you think about it.
Well, FBN is an amazing human being filled with optimism to spare and you're a cheesedick. I'm not surprised.
Where's the $100 act that we pay 40 bones for because of the economy of scale? Where's the god damn reggae act that we drink way too much at and stumble around? It's just not the festival it once was in terms of "I can't believe I have to decide which stage to be at", a victim of their own success.
They missed out on Neutral Milk Hotel, Beck and White Denim (I chose these acts because they show that Bluesfest is missing on multiple levels of stature), they would have been all over these bookings 4 or 5 years ago.
It's not a disaster by any means but it's not amazing either. It's kind of average and that's including the fact smaller stage/worse time slot acts are buoying a lack luster head lining offering.
Also, I'm going to destroy you in poker on Friday and claim that it was the gods vindicating my opinion (and you're not a cheesedick, your opinion is just as valid as mine even though it's obviously wrong, I'm just being a prick)
On a side note, I read St Vincent as St Germain, I'll be glad to see her again because her and David Byrne killed it at jazzfest last year but nonetheless I thought I was getting mangled one night.

Well that's a big fat kick in the nuts, I'm going to hold it against you for being the bearer of bad news in a passive aggressive sort of way.
Bluesfest ... doing their very best to not give the patrons what they want. Honestly, I have a hard time believing they won't be giving people the multi day "you pick'em" option. It was the best "meet everyone in the middle" solution though to be fair, they crashed and burned opening day in terms of ticket distribution (ie the crappy wristband system that they're so high on was not up to snuff)

Freaker's wish list is basically the Osheaga lineup.
I love Osheaga but I don't think that lineup is saturated enough to justify the cost (not a massive knock, it's just a pricey pass buuuuuut that's the free market and they sell plenty of passes) and again, there's enough talent that if it lines up it could make for a great day. Just my opinion, but they've had stronger lineups. A little top light like bluesfest but at least they booked a broad spectrum of interesting acts and no matter what Osheage is a slick weekend.
For ROI i think TURF is pretty solid at this point.

The only reason I'm not massively disappointed is the fact that Bluesfest can no longer disappoint me, I just don't expect them to hit a bunch of home runs anymore.
That said, there's more than enough potential for a great 5 day pass or if the stars align and most of the shit I want to see falls on 3 days then even better. Still, the headliners are pretty weak with no big wow booking and there's a lot good acts that are touring that didn't get booked.
edit: I'm pretty happy about the Violent Femmes booking, they put on a great show

Fucking great show. Just a big, fat proper concert.
Kudos to the Ottawa crowd, it's generally a little iffy but I'd say at least 75% of the audience dressed up and they were loud and appreciative. A rarity. The loud part, not being appreciative.

No joke, when I clicked on this thread I was absolutely positive it was just a tongue in cheek post leading to this fairly hilarious pic of someone being super disappointed that Bieber showed up for a surprise set at SXSW.
Unfortunately it's very sad news indeed. Awful stuff.

Babe, you are Fooling Yourself and not acting like a Lady if you cant behind Styx at Bluesfest. Come Sail Away with me you Blue Collar Man and it will be The Best Of Times. By the encore you will be screaming Dont Let It End. Be a Renegade.
Signed,
Mr Roboto
Bravo. I'm still sticking with our conversation this afternoon that we're going to need to be tanked to absorb Foreigner->Styx (though like I said, on some level I have a feeling I could enjoy Styx provided I'm stumbly)
Fingers crossed for Beck, White Denim and Neutral Milk Hotel.

Totally. The way I look at it is you don't have to be the fastest fish in the sea, you just have to be faster than the other fish. The way you're going about things is pretty much that, other people will be getting letters long before you do and when that starts happening you can consider your options.
VPNs, at this point, are a good idea if you're worrying about things (things being copyright infringement and general shenanigans). I've been taking a lot of information security courses, it piqued my interest, and I just said WTF, it's only 40 bones. It's a good service but there's better but not many, here's the rankings.
If you want to pay more there's services that make it easier to hop around the world and use netflix from multiple regions. With the service I'm paying for I have to set it up in my router as opposed to in my ps3 but it's no big burden for me.
I actually love the service, servers are fast, I can hop around the world and I don't have to worry about my activities being tracked and log. That said, I'm trusting them buuuuuuut the SLA is there, it's what they specialize in, they'll notify you if the SLA changes and it's not overly pricey.
-
I think it came out to 42 bucks a year, multiple servers worldwide, no log retention and IP bundling.
(there's plenty of other services that provide the same benefits but this one is probably the cheapest)

Can I wear a knapsack on stage??? lol
At the very least you should bust one of these out.
-
I bet if they just played the hits people would accuse them of selling busting it out.
-
I imagine the residual stink from the Jennifer Dances was still lingering and had an adverse effect on everyone's overall state of mind and wellbeing.
-
Absolutely great line-up. Yeah, didn't see that coming.
-
Good stuff.
-
Arteta and Rosicky aren't getting any younger. Wish they hadn't lost Song (fuck Nasri).
-
Arsene said something along those lines a while back but coming from Gazidis is good news.
Open the war chest!!! (that never gets opened!!!)
They do have that Puma money coming in and Rooney has to play somewhere, Arsenal seems like a good fit. There are some nationals there that he's played with in Ox and Young Jack (if he can ever stay healthy) though it's not like Rooney played well with the nationals. Either way, fuck it, I'd love it, even if it doesn't result in hardware at least they'll have pulled the trigger.
-
Podolski came on at the end. Either way there won't be room for both Giroud and Podoloski after Rooney transfers. Cesc is coming back and the Gunners are getting some hardware next year. Book it. Done. (not really, but Podolski did play better down the stretch)
PS The Wenger/Eagle thing is great

Zappa Plays Zappa was 6 months, just brutal. I won't be buying tickets for this show until I'm sure I know what the hell I'll be doing in September. That said, if moe. sells out (which they won't) good for them.
-
Yeah that was fun. Great to see so many people out. Carleton is always good times.
-
Taking it to the streets!
(yeah, that's a little disappointing but I'll be there)

I've finally got my big green egg built and running and have been screwing around with jerk marinades.
This is the original recipe that I've been tweeking (trying to get the heat right and switching in a proper amount of real onions, ginger and garlic instead of powders, used rice vinegar). Have two pounds of chicken marinating and going to cook it tonight with some apple wood for smoke.
For the jerk stock:
JERK MARINADE:
3â„4 cup (185 ml) white vinegar
1â„2 cup (125 ml) orange juice
1â„4 cup (60 ml) olive oil
1â„4 cup (60 ml) soy sauce
1 lime, juiced
2 Tbsp (30 ml) garlic powder
1 Tbsp (15 ml) dried thyme leaves
1 Tbsp (15 ml) ground allspice
1 1â„2 tsp (7.5 ml) dried red chili flakes
1 1â„2 tsp (7.5 ml) dried ground sage
1 1â„2 tsp (7.5 ml) freshly ground
black pepper
1 tsp (5 ml) kosher salt
3â„4 tsp (4 ml) ground cinnamon
3â„4 tsp (4 ml) ground nutmeg
1 cup (250 ml) chopped onion
3 green onions, finely chopped
1 Scotch bonnet chili, seeded and chopped
Blend it all up.
for the individual batches
INGREDIENTS:
1â„2 cup (125 ml) canola oil
1â„4 cup (60 ml) Jerk Marinade (see above)
2 Tbsp (30 ml) chili powder
2 Tbsp (30 ml) onion powder
1 Tbsp (15 ml) garlic powder
1 Tbsp (15 ml) smoked paprika
1 Tbsp (15 ml) freshly ground black pepper
1 jalapeño chili (for less heat, seed the chili)
1 tsp (5 ml) kosher salt
1â„2 tsp (2 ml) ground ginger
2 lb (1 kg) chicken chicken
Stir it all up.

Isn't the point of "serving notice" is to have some aspect non-repudiation involved? That the person cannot reasonably deny that they have been served?
My knowledge on this is based entirely on episodes of the Rockford Files and Night Court.

Gutted. What a massive loss. Aloha, Bradley.
