  1. this is what the old shitty penguin is saying..

The Montreal Canadiens do not have permission to talk to the agent of Atlanta winger Marian Hossa about a new long-term contract.

So says Atlanta Thrashers GM Don Waddell, amid reports yesterday that Habs' GM Bob Gainey had been given permission to explore options with Hossa, who is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, in advance of a possible trade with the Thrashers.

"There's no truth to it," Waddell told TSN. "None at all."

In fact, Waddell is still trying to sign Hossa to a long-term contract to stay in Atlanta. Waddell has been negotiating this week with Hossa's Edmonton-based agent Ritch Winter. The Thrashers expect to know by the beginning of next week whether a deal can be reached.

If a deal isn't in place by the beginning of next week, sources say Waddell will shop Hossa to see what he will fetch, but that should not be confused with an absolute commitment to trade him.

That decision will be dictated by the Thrashers' play between now and the Feb. 26th trade deadline.

If the Thrashers are competing for a Southeast Division title and/or a playoff spot, Waddell will have to weigh his options – keep Hossa for the stretch drive and playoffs and risk losing him for nothing on July 1 or weaken his team in the short term and perhaps derail the playoff run to acquire long-term assets by trading Hossa before the deadline.

  2. It is in contention for the Habs goal of the season. Which Tits scored the one from a couple of weeks ago? That is also a favorite of mine from this year.

pretty sure that was big tits as well. He's been looking great since little tits joined up. tits.

Turtleplek has been on fire.. Big test on Saturday against the high flying pens.

  3. What kind of idiots chant Olé with 2 minutes left in a tie game?? I mean, it's not as bad as nananana heyheyhey goodbye, but still.

I'm of the opinion that the Olé song isn't reserved for gloating as such, but is a song to reward the team for good play. I know its a hard concept for most other fans to grasp since its so far away from the boring Go Team Go!! :)

I don't know what to think about the habs right now. Price is definitely looking average, but his play is still above the rest of team.

You know your in rough shape when saku is getting booed, but what is the guy supposed to do when he has to setup guys like dandy on his wing. fack.. Go Habs Go... :)

  4. That 3rd period was some fantastic hockey! Too bad Chris Neil is such bum, eh?

fack sakes.. I'll shaddup now. :P It's true, I was singing ole at the game and the habs were fucked when the sens scored the late equalizer. The sleeping giants woke up. It's so nerve racking to be a habs fan late in the 3rd period. They have a hard ass time closing games out. Great atmosphere though and great goaltending.

  5. Shitty loss. The top line for the sens is scary good and the habs couldn’t pass out of their own end. Was anyone watching the game on the local ottawa channel? Holy fack, those two sling some stupid shit. Apparently Fisher has a 95mph wrist shot and Price can't be used to shots like that since Souray is no longer with the team. Comical in a I'm gonna kick you in the throat kind of way.

  6. Here's some more shite on this.

    Setanta Set For EPL Launch

Here's the good news, English soccer fans.

Setanta Sports should be up and running in Canada by Aug. 11. Just in time for the Barclay's Premiership season openers.

Now here's the bad: It'll only be available as a pay-per-view offering at first, with a price of $14.99 per month. And that's only if you're a Rogers Cable or Bell ExpressVu subscriber.

(although Cogeco should be on board in very short order, too).

Shane O'Rourke, the president of Setanta's North American operations, said the PPV price includes “all the live product on our U.S. channel except the Champions League.â€

That doesn't include any studio shows, he added. But viewers will see “a hell of a lot of Premier League and a lot of other things,†including other soccer leagues and some rugby.

Setanta has rights to all EPL matches except the Sunday 11 a.m. ET game, which airs on The Score. It has also cut a deal with Rogers Sportsnet to show the second-choice 10 a.m. game on Saturdays. O'Rourke said every other EPL Saturday match will be available on Setanta Canada, either live or on tape delay.

“Obviously, we're very excited,†he said earlier today from his San Francisco office. “We've got a fabulous Saturday package, and we think people are going to love the product. They've never seen this much Premier League available in Canada.â€

While no carriage agreements are in place with Shaw Cable or Videotron, O'Rourke said both “have shown interest†in Setanta.

While Setanta has applied for a digital channel licence, O'Rourke said only a PPV pack could be put in place for the start of the EPL season. Setanta had hoped to launch in Canada last November, but regulatory wrangling caused a massive delay.

One report today suggested a deal with Rogers Communications paved the way for the launch to finally get the green light.

Details about the placement and purchasing of the PPV channel on the available outlets should be available in the next week.

A new soccer channel with extensive rights to live English Premier League games is set to begin operation in Canada in a matter of days.

Setanta Sports, an international content provider, will launch a Canadian channel in partnership with Rogers Communications.

Roger Hall, chief executive officer of Setanta's international operation, confirmed Monday that the channel will start in “the very short term.â€

Shane O'Rourke, president of Setanta's North American operations, was even more explicit. He said it will be on the air in time for the start of the EPL season on Aug. 11.

“We'll be up and running by the 11th,†he said.

Neither Hall nor O'Rourke would comment on the licensing agreement, but based on Setanta's operations in Britain, Australia and the United States, the Canadian channel will operate as a premium pay service. To subscribe, consumers will pay about $15 a month.

Score Media acquired EPL rights last year. It then flipped the package to Setanta but kept the Sunday 11 a.m. (Eastern) game, which often showcases the best matchup of the week.

The Score has built additional programming around the Sunday morning telecast, including a Friday evening show that will preview the weekend games, a Saturday evening recap of the day's games, and a Sunday morning pregame show.

As well, the Score has retained broadband highlights rights and will stream its Sunday morning telecast.

The third carrier of EPL games will be Rogers Sportsnet. It has bought a Saturday 10 a.m. game from Setanta, but probably won't get first pick from the 10 a.m. slate of matchups.

It didn't hurt Sportsnet in its bid to acquire one game a week that it is owned by Setanta's partner, Rogers.

The bulk of EPL content – a full Saturday schedule, additional telecasts on Sunday and midweek telecasts – will air on Setanta.

O'Rourke says Setanta will provide the most comprehensive EPL Canadian package ever.

Rogers Cable, Cogeco Cable and Bell ExpressVu will carry the channel immediately. Carriage on Shaw Cable, Star Choice and Videotron is expected to take longer.

  8. Looks like we are getting some HD Games finally from overseas. Although it's looking like Setanta has the rights to "Soccer Saturday". Might be like 15 bucks a month for it.

  9. Goalie Huet cleared to play, will back up Halak

MONTREAL (AP) -Goaltender Huet has been cleared by doctors to return to the Montreal Canadiens lineup and is expected to be the backup to Jaroslav Halak on Tuesday against the Boston Bruins.

Huet has been out of action since he tore his left hamstring during a game Feb. 14 against the New Jersey Devils. The Canadiens No. 1 goalie had surgery and was expected to miss the rest of the regular season.

"It was nice to hear that and it feels good to be back with the boys in the lineup," said Huet. "I'll just try to be ready if I'm asked to play."

Coach Guy Carbonneau would like to have Huet start a game before the playoffs, but is hesitant to take Halak out with the team in the thick of the Eastern Conference playoff race in the final week of the NHL regular season.

"It's a huge plus for our team," Carbonneau said. "He's ready to go and I think he's anxious to get going.

"He'll be on the bench, so he'll have a chance to go in the warm-up and feel the game close to the ice. After that, we don't have a plan. We'll go period by period and day by day with him."

Hulak has started seven straight games, winning six. The 21-year-old was called up from AHL Hamilton when Huet was injured and has gone 9-5-0 with a 3.03 goals against average.

Huet's return bumps David Aebischer from the lineup.

The Bruins planned to start Hannu Toivonen in goal after he was recalled Monday from Providence of the AHL. It is a second straight game Montreal was to face a backup goalie after Buffalo started Ty Conklin in a 4-3 Montreal win on Saturday night.

"It doesn't matter to us who is in net," said Carbonneau. "Even if Jesus is in net, we'll try to beat him."
