  1. We were thinking about going to snoe.down, but then decided to go to S.F for a NYE vacation. We're going to catch 3 nights of the SKB run (including a dinner hosted by the band one night), along with a SCI show on the 30th.

If we end up at snoe.down it'll probably be a last minute decision. Hoping some of the winter dates come close to town.

  2. I didn't make the lobster bisque, but I did certainly enjoy it. It was the last meal cooked up. We enjoyed some great food this weekend(shrimp scampi with garlic linguini, spiede chicken with italian pasta salad, breakfast burritos, pulled pork sandwiches,ribs...were but a few of the meals/snacks that our group cooked up over the course of the weekend. A great crew totally over the top! :)

  3. Great times as always at moe.down. Great to see so many friends! My stomach still hurts from laughing so much this past weekend. Or perhaps that my liver from all that keg beer ;)

Last 2 moe sets were the musical highlights for me. From bands I hadn't seen yet, I liked TLG quite a bit!

    Cheers

  4. For fans of big/strong beer another catergory as it's being called now is extreme beer(high alochol content but still with good taste) Dogfish Brewery from Delaware is leading the way with some heavy duty beers. The 120 Minute IPA weighs in at 21%! YIKES!! I've tried their Shelter Pale Ale,Chicory Stout and the 60 Minute IPA. I'm looking forward to doing a brewery tour at this place!!

    SKB NEW LINE-UP!

As Eudemonic hits stores August 23rd, the Steve Kimock Band hits the road with a series of dates beginning in August going through the New Year. Joining Steve and Rodney Holmes for the August run out West is old friend Reed Mathis on bass, David Nelson Band keyboardist extraordinaire Mookie Siegel, and Mitch "Moose" Stein on guitar.

Then come fall, the Steve Kimock Band welcomes the great Robert Walter on keys and organ. Walter will fill out the proven powerhouse quartet with Kimock, Holmes, and Mathis, that wowed audiences during Kimock's past Halloween and Spring Equinox runs. Stay tuned and see you at the shows! More tour dates to be announced soon...

The fall line up is top notch! I hope to catch a couple of these shows! Another T.O show would be even better!!

  7. Hey Folks-

Sarah and I just got back from a phun trip out to

Oregon. Along with our good friends Dave and Kelli

from Charlotte,NC we traveled around the state. As

well as hitting the NWSS with our Portland friends

    Mike and Colleen.

Once we all got situated in Portland, Mike took us

to one of Portland's famous Mcmenamin pubs. This one

had tons of Grateful Dead memorabilia and music. Not

to mention good beer. The Kolsch was tasty!

    http://www.mcmenamins.com/index.php?loc=10&id=313

The next day our first stop was in McMinnville to

explore the Evergreen Aviation Museum. Home of the

Howard Hughes "Spruce Goose" and many other aircraft

and artifacts. The SG alone is worth the price of

admission. The plane is bigger than you can imagine...

    Texas BIG. http://www.sprucegoose.org/

Go figure we ended our afternoon travels at a winery.

Lovely view, interesting owners, and some fine local

    wine. http://www.amityvineyards.com/

We spent the night in Newport on the coast. Home of

the Oregon Coast Aquarium. Great place for kids and

adults. Lots of interactive exhibits. Aquarium had

    sea otters,lions,sharks,jellies,octopus etc A great

    stop http://www.aquarium.org/

Leaving the aquarium we found ourselves in a HUGE

traffic jam along the coastal highway. Good time

to tax the 4x4 rental. Off route and off road we

went to find a way out of the traffic along a

dirt road thru the Siuslaw National Forest. Lush

forest greens and wildlife made this a great

    alternate route!

Back on pavement we soon stumbled upon this gem of

a brewery. Looked a little gypsy, but the beers

were some of the finest on the trip! The Chocolate

    Stout was unreal! http://www.siletzbrewing.com/

Oregon state has more tasty microbreweries you can

imagine. We sampled many flavours from a wide variety

    of brewers(Mcmenamins,Siletz,Widmar,Deshutes,Rogue,

Full Sail,Elliot Glacier, Big Horse,Bridgeport) And

as you can imagine... I might have forgotten a few ;-P

    http://www.oregonbeer.org

We camped out along the Oregon coast at Oswald West

State Park. Great secluded campsites all within walking

distance to beautiful cove on the ocean. A local

place for Oregon surfers, whom road the waves(or at least

tried from dawn 'til dusk. Great camping spot!

    http://www.oregonstateparks.org/park_195.php

From the coast we headed up to the mouth of the Columbia

River and headed inland towards Hood River. Along the

way we stopped in a the Multonamah Falls.

    http://trips.stateoforegon.com/multnomah_falls/

We spent a couple nights in Hood River in the Columbia

Gorge region. World famous for its wind surfing and

newer sport- kite surfing along the Columbia river.

Hood River Hotel was a convenient spot in this phun, laid

back town. Lots of great restaurants! We took the

scenic Mt Hood Railroad thru the rolling foothills and

orchards of Mt Hood. We road in the caboose which was

a hoot! We had a personal tour of the Full Sail Brewery

in Hood River. Great tour, and way too many fine ales :)

    http://www.mthoodrr.com/

    http://www.fullsailbrewing.com/

From Hood River we ventured on and around Mt.Hood. We

visited Lost Lake with its stunning views of the mountain.

A short hike and picnic along the lake we continued along

to Timberline Lodge. Views of Mt.Adams in Washington and

Mt Jefferson in Oregon could be seen along this route.

Timberline Lodge is a National Historic site with amazing

views of the Mt and surrounding area. The craftsmanship of

the Lodge is amazing! Scenes from the Shining were filmed

there as well. We felt good about Hood!

Back in Portland and gearing up for the Yonder Mountain

String Band festival we all went to Jake's Famous Seafood.

Great variety of fresh fish! We all ate too much!! A fine

    dinner with friends. http://www.jakesfamouscrawfish.com/

Our crew of Kinfolk(Sarah,Kelli,Colleen,Dave,Mike and I)

drove into Horning's Hideout on the Friday. Rules about

outside beverages have been tightened up a wee bit this

year, so we had to use a few Jedi mind tricks to get our

2 vehicles inside with all our tasty cargo. Once inside,

we found a great campsite (Mike's usual spot)in the back 40.

Horning's venue is in a natural bowl surrounded by forest,

greenery and a small lake. Fine picking, jamming all weekend.

Mike and Leo have added a drummer, which sounded great.

Keller's set had Jeff Austin sit in as well as the Keel's.

Yonder sets were pretty much a free for all with the festival

guests(sit ins by the Keels,KW,Mike,Vince,Wasserman and

many others) Larry Keel and Natural Bridge's set was top notch.

Seeing Darol Anger play fiddle with YMSB all weekend was a real

treat! I hope festivals can continue at Hornings. Magical place!

An awesome trip! Big Thanks to Dave and Kelli, we couldn't

of had better friends to travel with. Y'all are Deluxe! :)

As well much Thanks to Mike and Colleen for putting us up in

Portland, great Oregon travel tips and the airport p/u and

    drop-offs.

  8. My only complaint was the sound guy had the volume rammed passed 11 and the mix was pretty muddy. I like them... guitar player is damn good, shreds like nobodys business) Songwriting still needs a little work. They reminded me of Seth Yacavone meets Frank Zappa...

Looks like both Raq and The Breakfast are playing at this years moe.down. Although Raq has played before???...

  9. SCI had a benefit for Aron as well. He's definetly a jam-fan as he mentions phish, sci shows in his book- Between a Rock and a Hard Place. A couple friends (Armand and Dave) had the pleasure of hanging out with him at Telluride Bluegrass festival for a couple sets. His book is worth reading... inspiring will to live.

  10. Well more than 5 cds...but I just loaded my home and car players with the Steve Kimock and Friends run from the Spring (3-16,17,18,19,20) and the Rebel Alliance Show (4-20) SK/F show has Kimock with Rodney Holmes(drums),Reed Mathis(bass),and Robert Walters(keys) So far..... SICK!!!!! Looking forward to seeing Reed at the CTMF.

  11. Yep I've liked these guys for awhile. Studio stuff is great, and live... tons of energy and phun! Seen them open for Sam Bush in Sommerville,Ma as well as catching them on their own in SF and Colorado Springs. Hope they get added to moedown this year, as the .down usually has some roots/bluegrass acts. As well, they opened a few of moe.s recent westcoast shows.

  12. Howdy folks-

We were supposed to go to the DSO show

this weekend, but the show was cancelled

due to the unfortunate passing of Scott

    Larned :(

So we changed road trip plans and went to

Rochester to catch Reid Genauer and the

    Assembly of Dust.

During the day we checked out the George

Eastman House museum. Eastman was the

founder of Kodak. The museum had some great

displays of photography (Mt series, Portraits

from American Music, and George Weston) The

George Weston photos were mostly black and

white. A friend of Ansel Adams, his wilderness

photos are very similar to A.A's work. The

house was interesting too. A turn of the century

    estate(a national historic landmark) 35,000

square feet, 37 rooms... grand old stuff.

    http://www.eastmanhouse.org/

Working up an appetite we went to Dinosaurs BBQ.

We've been a bunch of times. This place is awesome

if you're a fan of true wood smoked BBQ. We had

fried green tomatoes with cayenne buttermilk

ranch dip, followed by a smoked cheddar cheese

ale soup. The dinner we split a full rack of

ribs, with sides Cajun corn and real mashed potatoes

with gravy. Throw in the picture of Yuengling Lager

during dinner. It was nap time after this! Awesome

    joint for food!!

    http://www.dinosaurbarbque.com/rochester/index.html

Saturday nite- we caught Reid at the Club at Water

Street Music Hall. Sort of a smaller version of the

WS Music Hall. Decent venue. AOD put on a fine show.

Some new stuff, some Reid(Strangefolk) nuggets as well.

Nate Wilson tore up the place with his B3 and piano work.

We met Tom at the show, whose photography work line the

walls of WS Music Hall. He does a lot work and is a

licensed photographer for WSP. His website has some great

pics, especially the WSP stuff. He mentioned that he needs

to upload a ton of stuff still.

A phun road trip and some great music! :)
