  1. Heres the set:

    Rotan

    The Station

    Sweet Lorraina

    Down Again

    Divine Intervention

    Absolute Route

    Montana Haze

    One Way Out

    Speedballs

    Disco

    Not Fade Away

    Teaspoon > Groove > Teaspoon

Thanks for getting this up. Be sure to let us know if the video gets posted somewhere. Also, I haven't listened to the show yet, But I'm pretty sure that "Absolute route" was actually "Waiting for spring"

    Cheers

  2. Thanks for pointing this out Greg. I like that it is an amature crowd type movie. I have seen lots of band footage, people are more interesting. Poking around the video sure brings back fond memories. I had heard the other Telluride show but not this one. The Brokedown F&ck up at the end is hillarious.

  3. That being said Rob, are you going to be able to get away to this one?

We'd love to see you there. (Although this time you should try and negotiate an overnight stay!!)

    Cheers!

Be great to see you guys as well and share some west coast stories. I'm hoping for Saturday/Saturday night. I'll be flying solo, with a long drive back to the farm to get the family and then to on to k-w on Sunday. I know it'll be worth it................

  4. Those who want a bigger fest careful what you wish for. Size kills. Personally I like that CTMF has stayed the same. Low key, no hassles and lots of fun. I'll take a small fun hassle-free fest anyday over the big ones.

I can appreciate people asking for variety, no harm there. However, some people need to be careful with their words and tone as they disrespect good folk who come out and give it their best. They do this because they because they love music and dig the scene, certainley not for money.

I personally always dig the music. Ya I see a good deal of these bands, but that is because I LIKE them and a few I LOVE. I'm glad that a couple of times a year I get to see some of my favorite bands under the stars with good friends. It is what it is and I'm grateful.

  5. First saw Days of You when they played an outdoor show/festival in Uxbridge in '87. My first year seeing the Dead as well and both experiences sort of went hand in hand. Pretty much changed everything from there on out. Days were the Other Ones then. Travelled all over to see them in the early 90's and then the Fatcats took over (for me anyway) In fact my first time seeing the fatcats was opening for Days at the Serbian club Halloween '92 in Kitchener. Still throw in the odd tape once in a while. When they were on they could really bring it. Great songs, fantastic energy.

  6. Wait a second here. Are you kidding me?!?

    Main Stage 5:00 until 6:30 p.m. Jomomma

Main Stage 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. Fat Cats

Main Stage 9:00 until 11:00 p.m. Jimmy Swift Band

JSB are playing after the Fat Cats?!?! Has the whole world gone insane!??! We're not on the east coast here kids. In these here parts we expect our Fatties to be closing our festies. WTF?!

I'm with Willy on this one. No offence to JSB on this at all as I can't say I have ever seen them live and I'm sure they bring it. However with basically 15 years behind them the Fatcats have earned the closeing slot at what is our premiere local jam festival. To my knowledge they have closed every CTMF they've been at and before that bob's b-day bashes. (unless of course a major headliner was there ie. Jerry Band etc).

While yes its great they are there at any time , the closeing slot does matter. You get more playing time and the vibe that comes with playing at night. Judgeing music is obviously a subjective thing, but to me the Fatties are simply amazing and I think a lot of folks feel the same way. They should close the show.

  7. Can't argue with any of those picks. a few others pop into my head horsehoe '99, 10/19/96 and 02/14/98 but whats the point, too many choices.

Thanks fot getting this up so quick Greg, takes the sting out of not being there. One bonus of the amplified vocals is I'm catching lyrics I've never paid attention to "but my faith in god dangles, dangles in the breeze" ;) Sound definately improves farther in

Great to hear absolute route back, an obvious favorite of mine. Still needs a bit of work to bring it back to form but still great to hear.

Like the sound of the new one, lots of promise.

    Cheers

  8. Nothing comes close to the Dead for me. Like Edger said it is pretty much impossible to put it into words in a way that would capture the whole thing. Good thing for most on this board I don't have to.

Next favorite, Canadian or otherwise, is Fatcats. I think part of it is that of the jambands I've seen they are the closest to the "Dead's style" than any thing I've heard. I don''t mean this in "rip off" kind of way because they their own unique groove. I'm not a musican but to my ears Todd approaches jams the way Jerry did. Lots of scales and movement from quiet to a cresendo and back etc. Add to this a vast repetoire of really well written songs. Unlike many other jambands they have a substanial mix of ballads with sweet vocals to make it work. As muscians they're all top notch. Todd's ability goes with out saying however Chris is a brilliant rythym player(and song writer) who lays down a lot of the grooves that make you move, Dave ........ Ok I'm going to give it up, explaining music is way to hard. Just my 2 cents

  9. I was at the New Years show, can't say I can remember much if anything. Never heard a recording of it. Maybe the tape would bring back a memory or two :P

The radio thing I had as filler on some tape somewhere, probably lost to the ages. Haven't heard it in many years. That would be a great post........... alas there are so many good things out there and you are only human

    thanks for all your doing

    Cheers

  10. I think Dave stopped recording in about '95 or '96. But he certainly recorded a ton of shows from 93 to 95. Now that a 2000 show is up, it'd be great to see a show from 94 and 95 eventually put up, just to have every year represented......

Everything said up to this point is bang on. They deserve full credit for still sounding so good 14 years later. That's no small span of time. It just crossed my mind that for the Dead this would be 1979. Here's hoping Gillies doesn't have a cornary in rehab until 2022. :P

Many good bands have come and gone but to my ears no one puts it all together like the Fatties. Simply the best.

Huge thanks to all who make these shows available

  11. I seriously doubt this and hope that it is not true. The Hip are too big for Hillside and would attract a crowd not typical at festivals. Hillside does not need to get any bigger and like many good things is a victim of it's sucess. I know things can't go backwards but Hillside 10-15 years ago was more intimate and relaxed. Still a great festival.

  12. Only disappointing thing about this one was that it wasn't recorded. Having Doug play in between the Fatties sets was a great idea. Way better for him as the crowd is there and warnmed up. Lots of fun to see him jam most of the second set with them as well. I had no idea he played drums. It looked like he was really enjoying himself.

I forget the Allmans tune Josh sng but I'm pretty sure it was a first.... sounded great. They also reached into their back cateloge for Breathe which had been on hiatus for several years at least. Apparently Absolute Route (a personal favorite) was due for a come back after many years but didn't get fit in. Oh well next time. Happy memories from this one should last a while :P

  13. Not sure of the name but I've heard the song that is currently getting radio play a couple of times. (rain_____?). I was hugely surprised. It sounded like authentic Stones. As they

haven't released anything decent in 25 years I'd given up paying attention. That said I've only heard one song..... no idea what the rest of the album is like.

  14. Gillies is the complete package. It's not just his guitar playing that is stellar. He has a voice that you want to listen to and the number of truly well written Fatcats songs easily compares to other jambands that have had far more commercial success. The hockey analogy works for me. I have always thought the Fatties deserved to graduate to the next level, whatever that may be, but I'm glad I get to see them as often as I do. I'm not sure why it never happened for them. The only knock I'd give them is that their studio stuff, while decent, didn't really capture "their" groove. I guess thats why they're a jamband. Long Live the Fatties!!
