  1. link below offers a 2-4-1 sale on a wide selection of Criterion dvd's!

Any Criterion fans? Some of their flix have really opened my eyes to genre's/director's I've never heard of (ie, Pier Paolo Pasolini’s shocking "Salo" or Paul Morrissey's bizarre "Blood for Dracula").

    my top 5:

    -The Wages of Fear

    -Seduced and Abandoned

    -My life as a Dog

    -Straw Dogs

    -House of Games

  2. here's the setlist from Vancouver a few months ago:

Walking The Cow (Daniel Johnston cover)

    Around The Bend

    I Am Mine

Dead Man (from Dead Man Walking)

    Setting Forth

    No Ceiling

    Guaranteed

    Far Behind

    Rise

    Millworker (James Taylor cover)

    Goodbye

    Broken Heart

    Soon Forget

    Used To Work In Chicago

    Drifting

Hide Your Love Away (Beatles cover)

Here's To The State (**on the Setlist in this spot, NOT played)

    Trouble (Cat Stevens cover)

If You Want to Sing Out, Sing Out (Cat Stevens cover)

    Porch

    Forever Young (Bob Dylan cover)

    Encore1

    Society (w/ Liam Finn)

    Lukin

    No More

Arc **personal highlight; Eddie sang by looping various vocal harmonies and just ripping it to shreds by milking that "Eddie" wail he does best; it got pretty intense!!

    Encore2

Hard Sun (w/Liam Finn and Eliza-Jane Barnes ****with Ocean backdrop and smoke machine! Great uplifting way to end the show!!)

Songs from 1st night not played:

“Picture in a Frame†(Tom Waits cover)

    “I Won’t Back Down†(Tom Petty cover)

“Growin’ Up†(Bruce Springsteen cover; Eddie made some joke by how Bruce is "The Boss" and Eddie's merely an "employee")

  3. I caught the west coast tour opener in Vancouver last Spring. $75 may be a bit steep, but Eddy puts on one hell of an intimate+eclectic performance! I think the gig was over 2 hours.

Also, the opener is Liam Finn (son of Neil Finn, Crowded house) will leave you floored! He performs each instrument, moving from one to the other, looping the sounds with an effect pedal, a la Keller. Honestly, his performance, alone, is worth half the admission price!

  4. if u like Bubble tea and are overwhelmed by all the options and for some reason you're asking yourself, "why the fuck am I on trendy Robson st", seek out Bubble World! The milky pomegranate tea with pearls is a playground in your mouth!

Also, if you're searching to meet new and interesting peeps, the corner of Main and Hastings is a trip!

  5. 1989, grade 9

    Headliners: Red Hot Chili Peppers

with openers the Smashing Pumpkins who had openers for them, some band NO ONE had ever heard of...Pearl Jam...

    concert hall, Toronto

crazy now that i look back at it

    a*

that was September of '91; that show kicked ass! Pearl Jam was damn impressive!

  6. 1) first concert accompanied by an older family member:

-Michael Jackson's Jackson 5 Reunion (sponsored by Pepsi) @ the CNE in 1984-5; my big Bro took me when I was 6; we bought tix in a sketchy dark alley from scalpers; during the whole show I'm telling these obnoxious girls surrounding me to stop screaming.

    2) first concert on my own with friends

-"Clash of the Titans" : Slayer+Megadeth+Anthrax with Alice in Chains opening up (and getting booed off) @ CNE in 1991

  7. Top notch solo performance from Eddie! Random thoughts:

-2nd show from his 1st solo tour (mini-west coast run)

-spectacular intimate venue, Centre for Performing Arts, 1,800 cap; audience was just going apeshit in between songs; audience wasn't as obnoxiously obtrusive as the 1st night from what i hear

-decorative theatrical stage set up as if he carved out a small corner to playinside an old warehouse with a case of corona and suitcase by his side, plus other oddities, etc..)

-switched it up between electric guitar, acoustic, mandolin, ukulele, harmonica, and banjo (for Cat Steven's "If You Want To Sing Out, Sing Out"); also had a foot stomper mic'd

-laid back banter (with a tad political rant) between stage and audience (ie, throws his harmonica out to devouring crowd, " it's useless, be sure to dispose that for me"...sure...)

-setlist touched on Pearl Jam, random solo tunes (ie, "Dead Man")+covers, and the Into the Wild soundtrack

-also wanted to give big props to the opener, Neil Finn's 25 yr old son, Liam Finn. His set left me delirious with awe; he performs somewhat similar to Keller Williams, by creating an instrumental layering effect by using a looping effects pedal; he's also accompanied by backup vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Eliza-Jane Barnes. Check out his performance on Letterman to see what I mean...
