  1. Rock Crew and CFRC are very happy to present Motion Soundtrack & Lindy, with special guests Tomate Potate, this Saturday October 2 at The Grad Club!

Motion Soundtrack - touring to support their new album "The Bridge," produced by Todd Kerns. An album of meticulously crafted songs that combine traditional pop with splashes of art-rock.

From Lindy's early days as a six year old travelling with his family's folk troup, through to present day, his musical maturation has grown exponentially, moving him past songs of peace and atomic bombs to the more life experiential themes of love, betrayal, and the beauty that comes from loss.

THE GOLDEN DOGS - You must see this band! There should be no option - one of the best live shows you'll see.

  3. Rock Crew is very proud to present Mr. Something Something with special guests Ass Machine at Elixir this Thursday. Cover is $6 at the door.

A little something for the body. A little something for the mind.

The grooves have West African roots, with breaks and basslines designed to induce and sustain a state of ecstatic dancing. The horn section strikes with power and uplifts with melody, leading the dancers through extended forms. Above it all, acting as a lightning-rod for the combined energies of a Mr. Something Something event is the lyric statement of the case for change and consciousness. And dance.

Ass Machine is just a great band. Harmonies, power chords, charm, attitude, and a whole lotta love.

  7. Rock Crew & Elixir present the hip hop show of the year this Thursday, September 16.

All that needs to said about 9th Wonder is that he produced Jay-Z’s "Black Album", and will be joined North Carolina MCs Cesar Comanche & Supastition.

A MuchMusic favourite, Kyprios is known for his two huge hip hop hits, This Is My Hit, and Ignorance Is Beautiful, both off his bestselling major label debut, Say Something.

Underground producer/emcee DL Incognito combines old school sampling techniques with new school rhymes, and is praised by fans and peers alike as one of the most authentic emcee’s in the country.

Nova Scotia’s Classified (producer/emcee) released his first full-length album in 1995 and has just release his 9th effort "Trial & Error" on Toronto’ URBNET label. Ten years of hard work, ten years of "Trial & Error".

In two years, Masia One has launched her own independent Hip Hop career and company with nothing but love for the music and an Honours BA in architecture. Why do we want to listen to an architecture major? Is she going to teach this underground industry, gone mainstream, something about building a solid foundation? Be at Elixir to find out.

Tickets are on sale now at Brian's Record Option, Zap Records, Renaissance Music, UBS Exchange and Elixir.

  8. The city (and incidentally the AMS) has really cracked down on their postering by-law, which most cities have in one form or another. I got fined for posters last year, Elixir has been fined upwards of $2000 for postering. It's ridiculous, and I was fighting it until my pro-bono lawyer decided he didn't want to do it any more.

IMO, Scherzo is the best room in town, but the owner is a moron and the place is dirty, smelly and ill-kept. There's a very long list of people who won't play there or go there anymore.

Grand Theft Bus/Jimmy Swift Band will be at Elixir on October 7, btw.

  9. Zero, Weirdness, a few others and I saw The Slip play to a crowd of about 30 last spring at Elixir, and according to that other thread Elixir is the sh!tty bar for live music?

Which thread is that? Elixir is a great room. It's a square room with the stage right in the center of the back wall ... perfect sight lines from everywhere. They treat bands really well too, without complaining about how high their insurance costs are (now a trademark of the scherzo)

  10. Scherzo is one of the nicest venues I've ever been in, but the guy that runs the place is among the worst promoters around. You can usually count on some posters in the window and in the bar, but certainly no more than that.

The Scherzo was once the hottest club in Kingston, every band wanted to play there and it was full almost every night. The place is just a joke now, with a great PA (even though it got repo'd not long ago for lack of payment - it was back the next day)

  11. Rock Crew and CFRC are very proud to present The Sadies at Elixir on Sunday, September 12 with very special guests Unintended. Tickets are on sale now

The Sadies will be on the bill for big event of the day "Across The Causeway" - the big Tragically Hip show at RMC. Afterwards, for those who still wanna party, they'll be playing a full length set in their natural environment - the club. Those who have seen Sadies shows know that they aren't your average surf, garage, country, rock band ... but they put on one of the greatest foot-stompin shows you'll ever see.

Also on the bill is Unintended, a side project of Greg Keelor (Blue Rodeo) with Rick White and members of The Sadies.

Many special guests are rumoured to be appearing as well ...

Tickets are $10 and on sale now at Zap Records, UBS Exchange, Brian's Record Option, Renaissance Music and Elixir.

  12. Rock Crew, K-Rock 105.7, MTV Canada present The Don't Try This At Home Tour starring Steve-o with Wee Man, Chris Pontius and more!

The show is being filmed for Don't Try This At Home Vol. 4.

About The Don't Try This At Home Tour

Don’t Try This At Home: The World Tour kicked off in January 2003 and continues to sell out venues around the globe. From the USA, UK, Canada, to Sweden and soon Australia, Steve-O and company demonstrate their own brand of unique performance art on stage night after night. Billed as “35% Stand Up, 35% Stunts, 30% Improv but always 100% Original” no one, not even Steve-o himself, is ever sure what to expect of the show. “My stage show is genuinely a horrifying display of alcoholism and self-mutilation,” he tips off, but clarifies, “I lead a double life with the MTV mainstream programming and explicit DVDs.

Also on the bill are Universal recording artists Social Code and Kingston's own Loganseed.

Tickets are $32.50 and on sale now at Zap Records, Brian's Record Option, Renaissance Music, UBS Exchange and Cocamo Nightclub.
