  1. Larry Breedlove of Breedlove guitars I presume? Wow, can't wait to see this guitar in action! I can only imagine the tunings this would make possible what with the heavy gauge strings. Cool.

Yes. Larry did start Breedlove guitars, but he sold it to his brother a while ago and went back to Taylor to focus on design and the R.Taylor guitars. He has been working with Bob Taylor since the 70's I think.

Its setup tuned c to c but I would imagine I'll be able to get quite a range of useable low tunings from it. Should be here on Thursday!

  2. Hopefully I'll be in Toronto soon. Can't see a band happening any time soon. I find it almost impossible to just get my own shit together to practice alone.

The company is R.Taylor guitars. The main guy there is Larry Breedlove, who built a similar guitar to this (the heavy strings) for Dave Mathews a few years ago.

  3. Brad,

Well hopefully I'll get something together soon. I know I'm going to Collingwood in December but I really really should try and play Ottawa at least half as much as I play Collingwood :) Seriously... I really need to find somewhere to rehearse in the perth area until I get my house sorted out. Because I would really really love to play much much more.

  4. Soooo, I had a guitar built for me recently and I just got word that it is on its way. I thought I'd share some pics. What is unique about it is that it is built and braced for very heavy strings .016-.070 so the bottom strings are like bass strings but the guitar isn't a full baritone scale. The first pic is the wood set I picked out.

    Finished guitar!

  5. Its obvious that a lot of work went into the whole thing - but I can't help but wonder if some of the basics got missed.

e.g. "we're going to book bands to play starting after 11pm. Will the neighbours compain? We should drop off a case of beer and give them some warning, offer them free admission and/or a hotel somewhere if its going to be a problem.

Otherwise we shouldn't offer bands money to play. They probably don't want to go to the time and expense if they don't even get to play."

I'm no expert, but I'd bet that most of the bands weren't even getting paid the gas money it costs to get to Kimbercote and back. They play because they like it and they're good folks.

It also seems to have gone unmentioned that all that money got lost and this was still the MOST EXPENSIVE local festival ever. I've never paid that much to NOT see Fat Cats and Diesel Dog (well, I may have paid that much to make Diesel Doug go away - but not recently) but did so on the premise of a well run / good cause festival. My mistake. (and I'm not trying to be mean to anyone - I know I couldn't do any better)

Whats the saying? The road to hell is paved with good intentions...

From what I understand, the neighbours were offered something like $900.00 to take a vacation that weekend but decided they wanted free tickets instead. Seems kind of stupid to refuse the buyout, take tickets and then bitch about it.

  6. I had an amazing time at the festival. It looked like I wasn't going to get to play at all when the rain hit, but I couldn't have been happier about how things worked out geting to play inside.

Its really a shame that things ended up not all working out to the positive, because this festival was so great. Great people, music and vibe. I really thought it was quite special.

  7. not a single lawnchair fight and no hassles at all. :)

I ran into some ugliness at the Johnny Winter show. Some lady hit me while I was trying to get by her (literally hit my leg and yelled "STOP") so I took her picture with my phone and she got up and tried to run after me. I was drunk but still faster then her...good thing' date=' she was pretty mean. I still have her picture on my phone haha[/quote']

    Let's see the pic!

  8. I would try and find a used Martin 000X1 We sell them new for $525.00 so I would imagine you could find a used one for $350 or $400 maybe? Solid top, totally questionable back and sides, but you know it really does sound like a Martin, and if that is the sound you're looking for, you really won't find it anywhere else. Especially in that price range.

If you look around $500 there are so many more options open to you. (such as a new Martin or Taylor)

Godin, Norman, Seagul, simon and patrick, lapatrie, and art and lutherie, are all the same company and the acoustics are really only minor variations on a theme. great guitars for the money.

  9. I had heard that they had taken down the No Stairway signs because nobody played it anymore.

I work in a guitar store and - maybe Dave has a different opinion here but - without a doubt' date=' Sweet Child O Mine is the new Stairway. I hear it at least 4 or 5 times a week...and most of them don't stop at one time, they'll just keep hammering through it. Warts and all. Shitty nasal tone.

Honourable mention to Nirvana as well, still hear a lot of that.[/quote']

Blackbird is the song I hear the most.

  10. So, somehow we managed to get our hands on one of these:

Gibson Black Beauty Jimmy Page signed

    JimmyPageHead.jpg

There were 500 made and 25 that were all signed and played by Mr. Jimmy Page. This is #25 of 25. I must say, having this guitar around is more like buying stocks than a guitar, as I'm sure it will never get played.

note to Velvet: no you can't come over and play whole lotta love on it :)
