If so, Happy Birthday. According to the website's new birthdays feature, it is... Sorry if I'm wrong, I hope it's not some bug... Either way, I'll buy you a drink the next time I see you. Hope to see you out sometime soon, Cheers

Did you actually get to sign this Velvet?
-
It's gonna be heavy, sick, messy, intense.
How did you know I was coming? :: ::
-
Some of my favorites (that I own):
nero - Help-> Slip-> Franklin's (GD)
Jane's Addiction - No Rain (Blind Melon)
Particle - Another Brick In The Wall Pt. 2 (Pink Floyd)
Burt Neilson Band - Money For Nothing (Dire Straits)
Phish - Sea And Sand (The Who)
Smokin' Grass - Are You Experienced? (Jimi Hendrix)
Luther Wright & The Wrongs - Mother (Pink Floyd)
raq - Just Kissed My Baby (The Meters)
nero - Pumpkin (The Tummies)
Jimmy Swift Band - I Ran (So Far Away) (Flock Of Seagulls)
I know I'm forgetting a bunch.
I also remember seeing Soundgarden at Lollapalooza '92 do a cover of Body Count's "Cop Killer", the day the Body Count CD was banned in Canada. Not necessarily a sick cover, but a really good choice at the time and a lot of fun to see...

I've heard this was going on (I believe Tala is confirmed)... When can we expect some more info on this? I'm hitting the Shaker the following weekend, but I still might consider CTMF as well if the lineup looked right... There's not much time left before the 24 weekend, hook us up with the details!

Elvis- the king of peanut butter and bacon sandwiches...

Not trying to "start something", but I don't think the Lips can be considered credible. Just my opinion, not me trying to "push the facts"... I don't particularly like the Lips, which may or may not influence my thoughts on the subject, but I don't think it's fair to lump them into the same category as Sonic Youth or Morrisey... Not a Lips vs. Cheese debate at all, in fact I'm quite against them both playing Lollapalooza, and against the rebirth of the festival in general. I don't want anything remotely associated with our scene involved with it. As much as I love Jane's Addiction and Porno For Pyros, respect Perry Farrell as a musician and businessman, and thank him for some great memories (my first concert ever was Lollapalooza '91), I'm certain this venture will fail. Too bad for Perry, really, I was hoping he'd put together a mind blowing line-up and create a little bit of the magic he did back in '91 and '92. With the line up as is, Cheese or not , I don't think I'll be attending...

Hold on, hold on... The Flaming Lips credible? Avant gard, unique, whatever, but not credible.
-
The King could do it all...
Including dying on the toilet...
-
So what? Justin Timberlake is stealing Black music now, should we hold him on a pedestal? The real question is what did he do with it? He ended his career making Hawaiian movies and bad lounge music... Hardly someone worthy of beating the likes of a Jerry Garcia or a Jimi Hendrix...
-
I'm on a Mac, and I use BitTorrent_OSXv.3.1. No problems here either...
-
If Elvis didn't steal it, someone else would have... besides, is this really who you would call a "survivor"?:
-
Personally I like the new format... It's gonna take some time to figure it all out, but I think it looks great... Wha's with the censoring??? ::
-
Already on it, I'm not missing out for sure...
-
Elvis, overrated since the 50's...
-
Website looks good, plus I didn't have to redo my avatar... Cheers.

I think we need to be realistic about who we try to get up here. Drums & Tuba have played up here 3 times this year (that I know of), selling out the Rivoli the last time they were here, and Lake Trout managed to fill up the CoZo. We need to keep supporting bands that do decide to tour here, and work together to get more bands to give us a shot. There are a lot of bands playing in the US that charge little or no cover. These up and coming bands are working hard to make a name for themselves. I'm sure they'd be happy to come up and play. Remember, Phish played Ottawa in 1994 at the Congress Centre, Jazz Mandolin Project, SCI, Oysterhead and others have all played bars in Toronto recently, and I'm sure other bars and clubs in the area would be happy to establish themselves as the new jam scene. I think if we can eventually make one place a good venue, with a regular rotation of good Can-Jam shows with high attendance at every event, some more up and coming American bands will be willing to come up, and promoters will be more willing to put up the cash. Some bands we should think of:
Raq!!! (sick)
Garaj Mahal (just played Vancouver)
Charlie Hunter
Disco Biscuits (cancelled T.O. last year)
Dark Star Orchestra
Les Claypool's Fearless Flying Frog Brigade
Del McCoury Band
Drums & Tuba (keep supporting these guys)
I know that Raq plays a lot of free shows, so why would they turn down a paying gig up here? I think a lot more trading of shows of these bands would help out as well. If more people heard these bands I think there would be a lot more support and interest in seeing them live. And think of the word of mouth some of these American bands could spread down south if some of our local talent opened up for them. nero/Drums & Tuba at the Rivoli was amazing, and hopefully a sign of things to come. If anyone wants to hear some of these bands, give me a shout. Thanks, Jay

1st Phish song: Makisupa Policeman 08-16-97
Last Phish song: Possum 09-15-00
Never saw the Dead, and I kick myself constantly.
Great thread, Jay

Currently, I would say:
1. Del McCoury Band - 06-13-97. This is bluegrass done properly. I now see why Trey loves this guy. There's even a Beauty Of My Dreams on this that is killer.
2. Phish - 10-07-89 Disc 1. Really good old show from Maine. Nice versions of a lot of sweet songs.
3. Trey Solo - 05-08-99 Disc 1. Trey acoustic disc, worth it just to hear Trey play Billy Breathes on the piano.
4. Burt Neilson Band - 05-18-02 Disc 1. Great set from the first CTMF of this year. Maybe it's beacuse I was there, but I think these guys are still great 5 years after seeing them for the first time.
5. Trey Anastasio Band - 06-23-02 Disc 4. The Bonnaroo encore disc, with Trey ranting about the scene (no wonder people said he was on E), acoustic Wilson and Bathtub Gin, and a nice Alive Again at the end. Great show, now, if they would only come to Toronto...
You could throw on some New Deal as well if there was room, Isaw these guys in Toronto recently and they blew me away. Anyways, great thread. Jay

It's a pretty old Sessions, from 1998, so good luck seeing it aired again. You might get lucky though. Sessions @ West 54th is aired on PBS, I think on Friday nights. It's worth checking out though, they sometimes have some pretty cool bands on there.
