  1. looks like you'be got some competition Mr. Slippery.. I'll pick a person at random on Thursday night.. so if you are still interested please respond..

I just caught the band at the Drake Hotel last night and they were on fire... There is a lot more turntablism in the show last night which was super cool, the bass player and the keyboard players are real stand outs in this band, they really define the sound of the band, however everyone is just awesome, great horn players and guitarist.

I'm very excited about the show.. I am also very excited to see James Bryan... aside from being in the Philosopher Kings, he is a producer and studio musician... he told me that he played on the Nelly Furtado albums and a host of other Canadian projects... He met up with me and Marky at a show at the El Mo on Sept.4th, and he was telling us about his new act and the new direction he's going in.. and then presto.. he's the openning act for SOULIVE... NICE work Marky see ya there!

Two of Canada's top jazz/funk/fusion groups join forces to share the stage at The legendary El Mocambo on Friday, September 3rd, 2004. Both groups are best-known for their mix of hip-hop and rare jazz grooves, but what sets these groups apart is their own interpretation of these influences and genres.

Montreal's Kobayashi is an eight piece group who's sound is amalgamation of electronica, jazz, hip-hop and orchestral undertones, while The Quartertones, a 6-piece project, explores a more urban electronic sound with a live DJ. Check out these sounds that are bound to get you down.

  9. UNEXPECTED START TO EVOLVE FESTIVAL

    Antigonish - Friday Am -

the 5th Annual Evolve Festival was scheduled to begin at 4:20 pm Friday with a performance by groove band All oF Green, but things didn't really work out that way. As of Thursday afternoon, cars started coming. And people began peacefully and excitedly setting up for the weekend. By early Friday morning hundreds of eager festival goers had descended on Sunflower Valley in picturesque Antigonish Nova Scotia and they weren't waiting around for the party to start.

    2.jpg

Organizer Jim Dorey has been co-producing EVOLVE since 1999 and has never seen this kind of spontaneous convergence. "The party was supposed to start tomorow afternoon, but people just started showing up. And setting up camp. It's great. They're ecstatic to be here and really eager to help out. Groups of volunteer from New Brunswick, a group from Ontario set up their own stage with DJs, and there are all sorts of other types performers, and travelers from as far away as Vancouver Island, Mexico, and Romania! So now we have a small village of campers and an impromtu stage. I gotta admit we weren't quite ready for them, it's almost like the festival started itself up. ... - which is important because it's a essentially a people's event. Every year it's increasingly like we're facilitating this Canadian unity festival, everyone comes together and makes it happen."

  10. Hey Y'all

Jaydawg here in Antigonish, letting all you know that the excitement for this weekend's Evovle is culminating this weekend. I'm here at Evolve HQ, there 40 volunteers here painting signs, building stuff, we have people here from Vancouver, Mexico, New York, Transylvania.... We're cranking the Slip's "Live at Lupo's" onsite, things are shaping up to be the best year yet. Too boot there are a number of documentary film-makers who are going to be filming the excitement. CBC Radio, Much Music's Going Coastal, and much more will be there interviewing the artists, and audience, taping performances etc....

we got this climate change bus showing up tommorrow...

    bus5.gifwww.fallsbrookcentre.ca

Many of artists are already onsite helping out with preparations. The weather network says we're in for the best weather of the summer. I think it's going to be a wicked weekend!! If you have the weekend off.. please come down!
