  2. actually, you can only have ONE of those deals at a time. I had the free PVR and then was offered the 25% off of cable. my next bill shows up, and they want MORE money they previous months. turns out that I was now being charged $25 a month for the PVR. no arguing could get around that one - and believe me, I tried. they eventually refunded me about $50 for the difference (that took a LOT of negotiation, but I insisted that they do that for me)and I signed up for 2 years and 30% off. then I bought myself a used PVR for $150 (non-HD as my TV is not HD).

    My current promotion that I negoitated last month is;

    1 year contract

    30% off TV (Basic)

    30% off Internet - (Unlimted 50meg/175gig cap per/m)

Unlimited everything cell (Local/national and NA calling, LD, texting, data 500meg)

15% dollar repeating monthy overall discount

Free PVR (3 years running so far)

Free upgrade anytime on smartphone - no contract extention req.

    just gotta poke around...

  3. I'm moving soon and would like to get HD TV at my new place. I've never subscribed before nor do I own or rent a HD box.

Anyone know of any deals / promotions / smart tips to get HD TV for the lowest price possible?

Depending on your current contractual status you can threaten to leave Rogers and then begin negotiating with a Rogers retention specialist to get some pretty incredible deals. i.e. 30% off, free PVR for a year etc...

I find the Rogers online chat with their customer service to be quite useful in answering questions quickly.

  4. She's actually the only "slam piece" in the office, full blown cougar but doable. I'll sing her a medley of your tunes while she opens her gift

As for her music - Imagine new country hits sung by a woman who does at least a dozen costume changes during the show, has a full pre recorded band backing her and ususally plays places like Montana's Steakhouse and then you're starting to get an idea of what her act is like.

Thanks for the suggestion Sean, I grabbed both of those things. The lady at the health food store told me the spray was a favorite of a local professional auctioneer, so I took that as a good sign.

  5. I'm hoping some of the musicians on the board can give me an idea of what to get my co-worker for her secret santa gift?

She's a performing musician, so I'm thinking of trying to find her a gift along those lines. She's in a country duo, plays small bars and clubs, she's a singer. Price limited is $5- $10

    Any ideas?

  6. Blu-Ray is supposed to look good on these TV's, thats why they are always playing movies when you go into FS or BB. For a real test get them to turn or regular cable television to get a good sense of what it will look like on a day to day basis.

I'll second Audiotronic for anyone in Ottawa looking. No pressure, knowledgible staff who will walk you through everything if you want.

Thanks for the heads up on Boxee AD, I'll check out the others you mentioned. I might just run cable and just use the plugins in Windows 7 anyway and use XBMC for front end.

  7. Currently, in the United States Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November, and in Canada it is celebrated on the second Monday of October .

Thanksgiving in the United States was observed on various dates throughout history. By the mid 20th century, the final Thursday in November had become the customary day of Thanksgiving in most U.S. states. It was not until December 26, 1941, however, that President Franklin D. Roosevelt, after pushing two years earlier to move the date earlier to give the country an economic boost, signed a bill into law with Congress, making Thanksgiving a national holiday and settling it to the fourth (but not final) Thursday in November.[8]

Thanksgiving in Canada did not have a fixed date until the late 19th century, at which time it was typically held on November 6. After the end of World War I, Thanksgiving Day and Remembrance Day ceremonies were usually held during the same week. To prevent the two holidays from clashing with one another, in 1957 the Canadian Parliament proclaimed Thanksgiving to be observed on its present date.[7]

So we picked the date to try and balance out our fall holidays while the US pick their date to extend their Christmas shopping season?
