  1. Crazy news!

    Feeling kind of torn on this one, as much as I'm happy that the Folkfest is no longer in debt I am worried about what this could mean for our small but mighty festival.

    The current location is a pain to get to, no doubt, but once you're there it is the best music venue in town. Leaving Britania for the sake of convience sucks but it is the most logical change to increase attendence. Confed park would be my first choice but it lacks a certain intimacy that Britannia offers, so I dunno.

    Dylan's lineup was great this year, awesome new direction. Hopefully in the new paradigm Dylan is still in control of artist programming and with the new influx of Bluesfest cash at his dissposal, hopefully we can really strive to match Hillside and then surpass it with even more international talent.

    Moving it downtown also opens it up to a lot of new rules such as the curfew bylaw and the noise bylaw. Two things that weren't so rigid in Brittania, due to the inclusion of the surrounding neigborhood.

    In the end, can it really be a bad thing to have another world class music festival in town? No of course not but Folkfest is pretty damn special and it would be a shame to lose that magic.

  2. I've seen some Phish, at least I thought I had until GUYUTICA!!

    Amazing show, the boys are back in a big way. Seeing them having so much fun playing again does my heart good. I knew from the My Soul opener we were in for a special show but this exceeded all expectation.

    Vultures third song in!! I've been chasing this tune since IT and thats how I knew this show was special because by the end of it, so much cool shit had happened, I totally forgot they even played it.

    Other highlights included EVERYTHING. IF you haven't heard at least the first set yet, do your self a favor and download it now

    I fell in Love with Utica that night, Great hotel with a view of the auditorium. Amazing venue, I would gladly see anything there, tiny and totally lawless. The lot was great, packed, tons of great vendors, no cops and lots of friendly people. I think I met more people in one night then I did all summer tour. And our awesome crew, you guys made the trip truly what it was.

    Couch tour is going to sting extra hard until MSG

  3. Coupl of after parties within walking distance of the /venue/hotel

    Electric Company:

    Empire Sound (Wicked Awesome)

    Featuring: Al Schnier, Jim Loughlin, Sam Kininger, Kirk Juhas, and Corey Colmey.

    Nail Creek Pub:

    Wednesday the 20th we have a lot going on. Starting at 4:00pm we are having a Ithaca Beer tasting. If that wasn’t enough then there is a Phish concert right here in our own back yard. Its going to be great to see the mass migration leaving Varick st. by foot walking to the aud for a great show. Cant get any better right? WRONG! After the show we booked Utica’s own Rusty Doves to keep the music going all night long. FYI… Take the sick day on Thursday!

  4. Despite my ealier disgust I did find myself standing in line yesterday waiting for a Double Down. As I stood there debating the logic of eating this nightmare, the local news kicked in on the radio overhead. It started off by saying;

    "If you are planning on trying KFC new Double Down sandwhich....DON'T!!!"

    Every guy in there was getting the damn thing and we all broke out laughing even as the horrific details of the sodium content were listed off.

  5. Its from the Hintonburger. Located at Wellington and Irving in you guessed it: Hintonburg.

    The item posted is their special: using organic local beef, bacon and veggie toppings along with cheese and bbq sauce.

    $6.50. But you might pay a little more after eating it ;-)

    They also have fresh cut fries, poutine and corn dogs.

    Anyone eating one of those for supper will be nowhere to be found at 2am.

    The first try gets a 9.5, second burger scored a 7.5 for me and I haven't been back since........

    Now offering the Beau's beer infused burger!

  6. Top disappointments for me were definetly;

    The New Pornographers - Together

    Jason Collett - Rat a Tat Tat

    Both albums I was dying to hear both albums turned out to be giant buckets of poo IMO.

    The new kids helped salvage the pride of Canadian indie this year

    Zeus - Say Us

    Ra Ra Riot - The Orchard

    Both great albums!

  7. I consider myself a connoisseur of shit food and I gotta say, I ate one of these on Phish tour for breakfast and it was fucking disgusting to hold and to eat. I think my heart stopped for 3 seconds half way through too.

    I'm surprised by the lack of love for Jean Albert's. I love the food there.
