  1. So....I heard that the Cafe made up a few new rules since last time just to make sure that we don't have any fun. Amung the new rules, is "no taping". Thats sweet! Obviously these people have no idea what they're doing. More sound equipment then brains one might say. Band friendly? Ha, trying to milk money off the band by making them pay $300 for a recording of their own show. Anyways, this will give me a chance to try out my new stealth mics.

So, what is everybodies opinions on this type of behaviour. Is this even something they can do? I mean, can a band not tape their own show if they want to, etc. Is this a "fair" thing to do? Is this a nice thing to do?

  2. Well, that was a good post but my definition of a jamband is:

"A band whose music is better experienced live then recorded".

Also, I dont' think there is anything wrong using the term jamband. Otherwise anytime you'd want to use the term jamband you'll have to use the "funk/jammy/rocking/experimental/jazzy/improv" type descriptions that are just as limiting as the term jamband. For example on the March madness promos, for GTB it says Fredericton Funk. One of the guys from the band was reading the brochure and said "We're not funk" or something like that.

  3. Heres some Phish news for ya.

    Trey Summer Tour Dates Announced

    3.6.02

Trey Anastasio and his band will play 23 concerts at various indoor and outdoor venues across the United States this summer. Well, it's not quite summer, but it *feels* like summer, right? Kicking off the tour May 21 with seven dates on the west coast, Anastasio and his band will trek east playing a mix of amphitheatres, arenas and large theatres, including two-night stands at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas and Red Rocks Amphitheatre near Denver. East coast highlights include a stop at New York City's Radio City Music Hall plus a stop in Trey's home state of Vermont when he plays the Champlain Valley Exposition in Essex Junction.

We're excited to announce that the Vegas concerts will also feature special guest bands on each night: Los Lobos and Spearhead will open on May 31 and The Roots and Antibalas will open on June 1. Trey and his band will also close both nights of the multi-band Mountain Aire Festival in Calaveras County in Northern California over Memorial Day Weekend. The full festival lineup will be announced within the next couple of weeks.

It is very likely that an additional tourdate will be added on to the end of the tour by the middle of March. Trey also intends to do more North American dates this fall.

Anastasio's band consists of Anastasio, bassist Tony Markellis, drummer Russ Lawton, keyboardist Ray Paczkowsi, trumpeter Jennifer Hartswick, alto saxophonist Dave Grippo, trombonist Andy Moroz and tenor saxophonist Russell Remington. A recent addition is percussionist Cyro Baptista, who joined during the recording sessions for the new studio album and will be part of the touring lineup.

Tour dates and full tour information, including on-sale info, can be found on the Tour Dates page on this site. To view an HTML-only listing of the tour dates, please visit http://phish.com/print/tour_print.html. See the corresponding news item for details on the Trey Tickets-by-Mail online ordering window, which begins next Tuesday, March 12.

  4. I'm going to Grand Theft Bus tonight and I'm psyched beyond belief Technologies?

Or, I'm in Toronto today, but I'm going to be driving like a nut to try to make it back in time for Grand Theft Bus tonight at the Dekcuf Technologies?

  5. Sounds good. Can't wait to see the Bus tomorrow night. They are one of my favourite bands!!!!

Ya, on the taping front Sloth, I think the Merc has analog output so might be able to tape that, but they aren't jamband so might want 19.99 for the recording.

On the other taping fronts, my digi-cable and randon sets of mics/certain taping equipment hasn't arrived in time for this week. SO, looks lik,e no taping is gonna happen for me. Unless somebody has an extra set of mics that is.

If so, send me an email.

  6. Hi.

Well if you in Ottawa then you have a big week of shows coming up. Thanks again to Brad at Nugget Productions for booking almost every band we even wanted to see, or that will come to Ottawa, hehehehe, and to all the great bands. Also, remember that this is all made possible by everybody keeping on and keep on going out to the shows.

So....my question is... what shows are you doing this week? Let me start.

Who else is doing the Tues->Fri run? Yahoo.

  7. Beats. Install DirectConnect and connect to jamhub.dyndns.org. I think I'll prepare a FAQ on how to do it. How big is your hard drive and do you have a CD burner, are your only real equipment hurdles if you have cable internet. Send me emails if you need help connecting. With almost 200GB of music shared there, I think you'll be happy if you check it out.

  8. No travelling required!

Just go to zone.com. Click on 'backgammon'. A new page will open showing a list of rooms. Click on a room and voila! I'll be in the 'Basement' at table 150 or so, if anybody wants to have a game. My username is phishhead5000.

Note: If you have hotmail, messenger, passport account then you can login and chat while playing.

  9. Great idea PoG, but they have a point. I'm crunching some numbers right now trying to come up with some sort of schedule to accomodate as many as possible of all the shows coming up this march. Will get back to you soon....
