  1. four mile canyon benefit concerts tickets! I was the ninth caller to a local radio station, and I can't believe I won! I've never won anything like that before. sorry, but i'm just too excited not to tell everyone!

"The Fourmile Canyon Revival is a concert to benefit the Boulder Mountain Fire Relief Fund taking place Saturday, October 9, at the 1stBank Center in Broomfield, Colorado. This unprecedented night of music will feature Colorado's own The String Cheese Incident, Big Head Todd and the Monsters, Yonder Mountain String Band, Vince Herman and Drew Emmitt of Leftover Salmon, along with very special guests Jon Fishman, Mike Gordon, Page McConnell and Trey Anastasio."

From Time magazine: Well, this was one way to keep Harry Potter fans interested as they grew up. Modeled after Harry's first broom, Mattel's now discontinued battery-operated Nimbus 2000 featured a grooved stick and handle for kids who wanted to ride it around the house. The dubious part: it vibrated. Some of the (now deleted) comments on Amazon were so good, they had to be written with a wink: "I'm 32 and enjoy riding the broom as much as my 12 yr old and 7 year old," wrote one satisfied customer. We bet.

can't believe mattel thougth it would be a good idea to give kids a big vibrating broom shaft to put between their legs. That being said, I'd like one please! I think you can get'em real ceap on ebay now...

  3. Bummer, but I hear he can still nail all the drum parts on Pyromania.
a guy I knew from phish tour had to do the same. Not sure I could bring myself to doing it!

Would that be Aron Ralston by any chance?

His story is pretty gnarly and inspiring, although someone as experienced as him should have known not to go solo into the canyons without telling anyone where he was going and when he was due back. I actually had a good chat with him not too long ago when he was hanging out in the bookshop I work at here in Boulder. Really nice guy.

How are you liking CO so far? we should get together for a drink some time!

  4. I implore you to name your kid something that everyone knows how to pronounce. Imagine having to tell everyone you meet for the rest of your life how your name should be pronounced.

Actually, I don't agree. I like having an uncommon name. My name is Karin, pronounced Car In. No one ever says name right at first, usually gets pronounced Karen, but I don't mind correcting people. It only gets annoying when I have to tell the same person over and over again. When that happens, I just start implementing negative reinforcement techniques and smack 'em around a bit everytime they say it wrong. ;)

To help people remember how to say my name, I tell them to think of "Karin the garage," that usuallly helps.
