  1. Its only money.

If the place makes you happy buy it. You're not buying an investment propery or making an investement, you're buying the piece of mind / relaxation that comes with that pond.

All the advice above makes sense from a financial perspective - but who says thats what its about?

This place has a pond AND a hot tub right?

In Toronto places appreciated on average 9% this past year (I think thats what I read last). So you overpay 5% - you make up for that in one year's appreciation compared to what you'd get by renting (not taking into account how you'd spend the money otherwise).

I mean, don't overpay to the point that if you lost your job and had to liquidate you'd lose so much money you'd want to hang yourself.

I'm just saying if it makes you happy, it can't be that bad. (wait, where do I know that from?)

And you can still reason with them a little and try and work them down.

Would suck to end up seeing someone else buy it for what you thought was too much and then figure out that you can't do better and end up living in a condo or something, something pondless.

On second thought - screw it - just go on tour.

  3. r.e. too many signs / not enough brains

Im impressed at how traffic in huge cities like Saigon and Bangkok, flows along as if its alive- people, animals, cars, mopeds, motorcycles, taxis, buses, trucks, rickshaws, bikes; all flowing together like a giant river- with far fewer and less serious accidents than we have in North America per capita. Definitely something to the argument that signs are a terrible substitution for overall driver awareness.

    .

Not my experience at all - in Bangkok and Malaysia I saw numerous accidents (I admit no serious ones, but thats probably because I wasn't there long). Accidents were constant at large intersections because all the bike/motos would fill in all the spots.

The difference is they don't seem to have the same insurance compensation system so its more of a "tough luck" situation then a lets get off and exchange contact information situation.

  4. If you're are turning right in a car you must check to see no cyclists will be coming up on your right intending to go straight.

Well' date=' that's just fucking stupid in my world. Either the bike should be forced to wait until the car turns or the bike should go to the left of the car. The bike shouldnt automatically get the right of way.

Obviously drivers should be forced to look to see if a bike is about to plow into them or if they are going to plow into a bike but common sense should be applied in this scenario.[/quote']

And I'd have to guess that in Canada the bike doesn't get the right of way in that situation. I would think they'd be considered a vehicle and have to obey the rules of the road which would mean waiting behind the back cars.

Could be wrong - but I've hit my quota for the year on that, so I doubt it.

  5. Question Hatamaphone- are you saying that when I'm in the right hand lane (in a car), waiting to turn right, with my blinker on, and multiple cars are stopped behind me, a bike is right to come up on the right of them all to proceed forward?

I really don't know, not trying to be a dick. But I always thought cars were to obey the same rules of the road as cars (other then the signals etc. of course). Therefore, in that situation or any, the bike should wait behind the row of cars, just like the cars are doing.

    Am I wrong???

  6. I only know the coles notes - but to be fair, put me in a situation where a raging mad bike courier is grabbing onto my car yelling at me and hanging on - put my wife beside me - and I can't say I would react differently. I like to think I would, but fear can be a powerful thing.

We had a semi-similar situation where a pedestrian kicked our car while my wife was driving. Put a big dent in it. She calls me upset saying she didn't know what to do, whether she should stop and chase him down. My immediate reaction was no way. He's obviously crazy and I don't want her confronting him. I want her driving away (if I was there maybe its different).

Admittedly the driving onto the other side of the road etc. is going a bit far - but the reports also said he was calling 911 in the midst of all this which again suggests to me that he was affraid for his safety.

Shitty for all involved for sure - and moreso for the family of the deceased. But man oh man, what the fuck are you doing grabbing onto a car when you're riding a bicycle????

  7. Presale tix went FAST.

I was refreshing my screen and at a couple of minutes past noon decided to start fresh. Then they were up (missed out on front row).

    Row G in the middle. I'm happy :) :) :)

    Seating: http://www.queenelizabeththeatre.ca/seating.html

I was having hte same problem - but figured out that you can actually just click on "ticket information" after 12:00 without refreshing to change it to "buy tickets" and it'll still get you there.

Also, I think there were more tickets coming out - the shitty seats never showed up and I was trying later and got some, then sold out, then got some etc.

  8. It worked today - although I got an error the first try because I had already "put items in your basket of a different currency". Had to shut all windows and re-open (there was nothing in my basket).

Manged to get 4th row right up the gut. Probably the best seats in the house (front row is too front for me - need a couple people to spill my beer on).

    Anyone else grab any?

  9. Just got off the phone with Music Today (or should I say Live Nation since thats who owns them now) and they know nothing about a Toronto Mule pre-sale.

Queen Elizabeth Theatre didnt' call back.

    Live Nation has nothing.

    Ticketmaster has nothing.

    ????
