I was impressed that on my 7:45 bus ride in this morning someone already reeked of booze

maybe I shouldn't have been that impressed now that I think about it.

I'm not going to get into the history of St. Patrick's day anything like that (cuz that would be a whole rant in and of itself). I just need to vent how much it bugs me to see people spell it "St. Patty's Day".

Here comes the lesson...

Patty is short for Patricia, Paddy is short for Patrick (from the Irish name Pádraig).

Any time you see it spelled "St. Patty's Day" they are really saying "St. Patricia's Day".

I'm on it. it took me a long time to find the value in it but now I have it up and running all day long. It's kinda like having the radio on in the background, you can tune in from time to time and check up on headlines and such, but largely it's background noise unless I'm specifically looking for something or a particular tweet catches my eye.

I don't know anything about the band, but that was a pretty decent cover. I'd go check them out on the merit of that video alone (but then again, I'm a soul freak).

yeah.. what Heritage had in terms of brewing talent they lacked in terms of marketing talent

from what I've been able to determine, Heritage and their brands are gone, purchased outright by Kichesippi. After that purchase Kichesippi then bought Scotch Irish. What is weird though is that the original Scotch Irish owners didn't sell their brands (so I'm not sure what exactly they sold) and will continue to produce them, but for the Toronto market.

My wife bought the Barnes & Noble Nook. B&N doesn't sell to Canada but if you know someone in the US that you could ship it to then you're good.

She did a lot of research and went with that one based on user reviews, price point, and the fact that, unlike the Kindle, it could handle non-proprietary file formats (PDF and ePub being the two biggest). You can also buy books from Chapters/Indigo, since both the Nook and the Kobo use the same file format.

This means she can get books from the library, which you can't do the with the Kindle.

The big selling point the Nook had over the Kobo for her was that the Nook allowed you to set bookmarks.

Also, if you are at all handy, the Nook color can actually be hacked and turned into an Android tablet, with full access to the Android app store.

To me, Lady Gaga is really no different than David Bowie. David Bowie tried a number of times to break out, but it wasn't until he went glam with the Ziggy Stardust thing that people actually started to take notice.

Was it his crazy look or great songwriting that got him noticed? My thoughts are that the crazy look got him in the door, but it was his talent that kept him there.

I see the same with Lady Gaga. Here is a musician that was largely ignored until she started wearing crazy outfits and became a real spectacle. That has gotten her through the door.

Sure only time will tell if she has the same staying power as David Bowie, but she certainly seems to have the chops required.

Just my two cents.

the late Brian Murphy had that album as his number 1 or 2 jazz Christmas album around. If that helps with the decision making (the other album that was in the 1 or 2 slot, I can't remember the order, is that Sackville Allstars record)

U.S. thanksgiving is a much bigger deal as well. Although it's not a religious holiday, being Jewish I never celebrated thanksgiving growing up, nor did any of my Jewish friends. still don't. When I lived in the U.S. I was surprised to find out thay everybody celebrated thanksgiving, even orthodox Jews, Rabbis, etc...

I had many Jewish friends in high school and I was really surprised to find out they didn't celebrate Thanksgiving.. which is totally not a religious holiday. I never figured that one out, but whatever.. more turkey for me!
