  1. Hey gang, Comfort Station here from Ottawa is in need of some players who would like to join us for a sweet gig we gots lined up at the Bayou Blues n Jazz Club here in Ottawa on Saturday September 25, 2004. We were originally booked to share the stage with Tala, however as most of you already know they've temporarily (hopefully) called it quits. It also seems the few Ottawa bands we have here are not available for that date...so..for any other bands out there heres an opportunity. Details can be worked out later, but you'll have a place to crash here in Ottawa, you'll get to meet a lot of good people here from the board, you'll get to play a good venue, get paid and probably still be able to party your ass off afterwards with us, what more could you ask for. If anyone is interested, has the slot open, and can come down, then let's make it happen, it for sure will be a fun gig.

E-mail me at: comfortstation@hotmail.com, send me a PM, or just post some suggestions, info, ideas...time is of the esscence!

  2. We actually tried Jello wrestling last year here at 40 Main. the pool and jell o were bought, the jello was loaded into the pool and left over night to harden, unfortunaty, the pool sprung a leak and by morning the pool was deflated and there was jello juice all over the yard.

sh!t yeah, I remember that like it was yesterday, I did it up that night, it was coming together sweet, woulda been beautiful....damn plug ruined it all.

    :(

But there is always this year...if you cats are serious this could possibly happen again!! :o

  3. Got a little too "tired" sailing yesterday, otherwise would've made it....will there be another??

Hux you sh!t bag, we could have used your talent last night, you missed a good time bro...the horn section was the highlight for me, for a while last night we had it going real smooth, we should take that ensemble on the road.

It was good meeting a few new faces last night as well, Meggo, Pat, and a few others who I don't believe post on the board.

As for another jam, I'll have to confirm but I think next week may be available again for another one...

  4. Hey guys, I was looking to see if anyone from the area, plays in a band or knows some contacts in regards to booking a show in late October? Comfort Station will be passing through there on our way to TO for an Oct 30/04 gig, and was hoping to make a stop in Kingston for a show the Friday Oct 29/04 before the Saturday gig in TO... Weve contacted the Scherzo, and they may have a spot but we'd need a good opening band with us...any info, ideas would be appreciated...thanks ::

  5. mic the bodhran.

what's the system like at the bayou? will we all be able to go into the board or is it meager?

will there be enough mics for everyone? if we have an instrumental jam will we be able to mic all the quiet instruments??

The system seems to be ok there, although it's older, played there a few times, i'll bring some extras of everything in case...we should be fine.

  6. Looks like it can start going down at 8:30, that's what's listed on the Bayou website. Looks like we gots enough interest to hit up a fun night of playing; what we'll probably do is get ensembles up together to play a few tunes each, say 2-3 depending in length, so a few Tummies, maybe a Hux/Skank blend, Station, and any others who have something together for when they come down. As well a good idea might be to collectively put together a list of tunes we all know and play and can jump up to play on stage for, Beatles, Stones, Dead, Phish, whatever really, this will give us a list of tunes to pick from and keep the music flowing through the night. Of course leave lots of room for jamming and freestyle improvisation....

    heres a few:

    Little Wing

Can't Always Get What You Want

    Franklins

    Trucking

    Heavy Things

Blues numbers (One Way Out, Southbound, Thrill is Gone, etc.)

    and on and on...

  7. so is that going to be this Thursday (September 2)? or the Thursday afterwards?

It will be this Thursday Sept 2/04.

I'll speak with the guy from Jazzworks tonight and see how he'd like to do it, I believe he just uses a list and puts bands/performers on it and go from there, so maybe we can do it that way, and get people up in between for sit in's etc. This could be a lot of fun, we haven't done this in a while :)

  8. Yessir, it still is going down! I'm glad you guys are interested. Basically like I mentioned it's a night for all of us to come down and jam together, there'll be equiptment there, guitarists may want to bring their axe's if they have em, the kit n amp's we can take care of. We can either do it a little formal, like put together a list of people to play their songs, and have anyone join in if they like, or we can just bring people up as they call tunes, it doesn't matter...any suggestions?

  9. Yes, we would love some help promoing, do you know someone, i can have some 11x17 color posters your way today. we're obviously on the promo machine too, but any help is greatly appreciated.

Yeah, postering is no problem and a good idea, let us know how you can get some down to us, mail, drop off or whatever and a few of us can take care of it no problem.

  10. Ottawa Bands and Jammers out there, is anyone interested in collectively getting together next Thursday at the Bayou for an open jam party?? I've gotten a call yesterday from a few folks who usually run open jazz jams at the Bayou on those Thursdays and they were asking if any of us jammers in Ottawa would like to take the stage and make it a night for us?? Lets think of it as like a 40 Main jammathon but without the 18 kegs or so, it's free of course to come play, and if enough of us come down it could be a great party. Skanks, Hux, Tummies, Grant Buffett, Station, all other jammers?
