  1. I showed up at my folks place a few weeks back and they had this newspaper clipping on their fridge. It kinda puzzled me at first... I'd never seen that photo of myself....

Too wierd.... the photo is of Eric Gagne who is the pitcher for the LA Dodgers. Same age as me too.

  4. BNB - April 2nd 2005

    The Rivoli

Oooooo.... can't wait for this one! Been about 5 months since we've played a hometown show. Lookin forward to a fun evening. For the first time in a LONG time we also have all four of our cds for a Toronto show, complete with new packaging and art.

As well y'all should swing on by www.burtneilson.com and check out the new site... 4 years on the drafting table.... sort of.

There's a free ticket to the Rivoli for the first person to leave a message on the burtneilson.com discussion board with the subject "I WON!". Leave yer email in the message and I'll hook you up. See y'all then.

  5. VORCZA

If Tom Waits played organ, you would be close to the Vorcza experience. This explosive trio that blends jazz, funk and world music features Ray Paczkowski (Trey Anastasio Band, Dave Matthews & Friends), Gabe Jarrett (Jazz Mandolin Project), & Robinson Morse (Viperhouse).

This trio of musicians and composers has a singular style of playing together. This is a music which takes audiences to dizzying heights of rhythmic and harmonic exploration and still manages to satisfy listeners who crave melody and nuance. They howl with intensity and whisper intimately with grooves of funk, latin and jazz.

Hmmm... Tom Waits does play organ!! One of the first places I heard of him was on Roy Orbison's "Black and White Night" where he indeed plays the organ. I know.... not his main gig... but I went on to think of him as an organ player for years after that.

Anyway... we're really excited to be playing the first CTMF this year. It's definately a keyboard heavy weekend!!!! Can't wait.

  6. I'm gonna go check this out... loved his songs with the Local Rabbits and hear his solo stuff is great too. Here's the scoop from his site.

"Ben will be performing at El Mocambo March 25th with the following players: Robin Buckley (drums), Doug Freisen (bass), Dafydd Hughes (synth), Don Kerr (percussion), and Joel Stouffer (piano). DJ Kidd will be providing funky music througout the night and Subrythm, a spontaneous, two man Drum'n'Bass act, will open. Dance, drink, and enjoy a really good show. Of course, Beigy Blur, Ben's debut solo album, will be available for purchase for the first time."

  7. BNB first played at Ghost Town in 1999... I think Labour or Canada Day. That was the first I'd heard of it.... maybe a party or two had happened there before. I think the reason we played was because we'd heard about the Fat Cats playing it the time before... so we gave it a shot. Good memories.

  8. I've got our set from Edmonton 03/02 on 2 CDs. The house tech handed it me after the show.... soundboard I belive... but came out sounding real good.... and we were having a good time that night.

I'll send a copy to anyone who wants to post it online.... just shoot me back an address.

    Jeff

....other than that I'm pretty sure no other shows got recorded on the tour.

  9. It's been a while since we've been in Brantford... too long in fact! Next Saturday night we'll be back... Mike will play the entire show while doing a headstand and Jermemy will perform while doing non-stop roundhouse kicks to an imaginary alarm clock... seriously!!

Our western tour was a blast indeed.... lots of fun, driving, relaxing, and drinking. Thanks to all the folks out there who made us not want to leave.

There's lots more dates coming up as well....

    April 2nd - The Rivoli - Toronto

April 5-10 - East coast Tour!

April 15th - Call the Office - London

    April 22nd - Le Swimming - Montreal

    See y'all soon,

    Jeff

  10. What day is 'tonight'?

If it's Wednesday night, then there's another fantastic band at the Elmo as well. The Scribbled Out Man will be playing, featuring Pete Elkas bassist Doug Friesen and Rheos/Ron Sexsmith drummer Don Kerr. It's Doug's birthday as well! More good music....
