Mark Knopfler Injured, North American Tour Still On

From Chart Attack - March 18th

A collision in London, England yesterday left rock icon Mark Knopfler with a broken collarbone and several broken ribs, but the shows will go on for the former Dire Straits’ frontman. His North American tour at the end of June (and into July) is still happening.

Details are sketchy at this time, but what we do know was that Knopfler was in the fancy Belgravia neighbourhood on his way to practice for his upcoming tours. He was planning to start a two-month European tour on April 22, but we haven’t heard how many European dates will be affected by the accident. He is now recuperating.

The accident couldn’t have come at worse time for Knopfler — he’s on the verge of almost fourth months of solid touring, with only an eight-day break between the Europe and North American dates. He released his third solo album, The Ragpicker’s Dream, last September.

Knopfler’s also been busy the last few months, including recording with Emmylou Harris for an upcoming Duets album, receiving a lifetime achievement award at the 2003 Edison Awards and even signing a deal with Fender guitars for his own "signature" model.

Mark Knopfler Canadian tour dates:

July 3 Ottawa, ON @ Cisco Systems Blues Festival

July 4 Montreal, ON @ Place des Arts

July 5 Toronto, ON @ Molson Amphitheatre

July 6 London, ON @ John Labatt Centre

July 31 Vancouver, ON @ Queen Elizabeth Theatre
