Velvet
Stardate 051202 nero @ Moby's Marine Pub, Salt Spring Island, British Columbia Feeling all-nighter weird after the big push, we made it to the ferry to Victoria. 75% consensus held that we should hide Shane and pay less to cross to the island. So, Shane hid under the covers and I laid on the bed in front of him, adequately hiding 'Lil Red from view. We get up to the booth, the lady measures the bus length (23') and then Dave announces that there are only two in our party! I dove under the blankets; I don't think the lady bought it, but she didn't charge us extra and off we went. When we got to the Salt Spring Ferry they forgot to charge us! We were waiting in line. I ask from the back of he bus if there are any washrooms nearby. "No washrooms." "But it's crisis point guys..." "No washrooms, we should be on the ferry soon." So I'm squirming when Jay says "Fuck it, I can't hold it any longer" and he bolts. I look through the window and there's a bathroom right there! Bastard. I make a run for it too. Jay is busy leaving a DNA deposit to the BC Ferry Authourity and asks how much longer we have. How should I know? I get back to the bus and sure enough, the ferry is loading. Shane boots it to tell Jay to hurry. Our turn comes up and we hold up traffic as Jay comes bounding out of the bathroom, doing up his pants on the fly and running faster than I thought possible. Made it to the gig. Great town, spirits are high. Fantastic looking bar - great layout. Nice. Good staff and great smelling food (meals included). Things are looking up. Signboard: "Sunday Night, nero. Dinner Jazz." Um, dinner jazz? Had a dinner that couldn't be beat, went to the hotel, which was great, and mulled over what to do. Sens got beat - a sign? The bartender said to just try and take it easy first set, and second set could boost it up a little. Morale began to slip. I woulda thought it would be a fun challengs to try and relax all your tunes for a gig. First set actually was pretty good, although the band pretty much cleared the place. The second set was less than great. I think Dave overcompensated and he soloed his face off, big long outside jams. Way over the top, especially for the venue. It's too bad, coulda been a really interesting gig, sort of making lemonade from lemons kinda thing. Oh well. Right band, right bar, right town, wrong night. Maybe next time (starting to sound like a mantra). Quote of the Day: "Turn it down! I can't hear myself think!"
