Senate votes to bring troops home

March 20, 2003

AFTER a protracted two-day debate on the Iraq war, the Senate has voted to bring Australian troops back home immediately.

Labor, Australian Democrats, Australian Greens and independents Brian Harradine and Meg Lees joined forces to support the motion Iraq was being invaded without UN Security Council authorisation.

Australian troops should be withdrawn and returned home immediately, the senators said.

(I bet you won't be hearing that on CNN. [big Grin] )

Hmmm, you know what I'm thinking? I figure this story is probably totally true, but it might be kind of like a Senate resolution here, where it's really more of recommendation, and it's really the House of Commons that has to make the "real" decision... I dunno, maybe someone who knows more about Australian politics (or Canadian politics for that matter! [Razz] ) can back me up here? [Confused]
