TimmyB
from www.billboard.com Edited By Jonathan Cohen. October 26, 2004, 10:25 AM ET Wilco, Lips, Sleater-Kinney To Rock NYC NYE Wilco, the Flaming Lips and Sleater-Kinney will team for a New Year's Eve concert at New York's Madison Square Garden. Tickets will be available via Internet pre-sale on Nov. 1 via Music Today and to the general public on Nov. 5 via Ticketmaster. For Wilco, the show will cap a successful 2004 that has seen the release of another acclaimed Nonesuch studio album, "A Ghost Is Born," and frontman Jeff Tweedy's victory over an addiction to painkillers. The set debuted at a career-best No. 8 on The Billboard 200 and is among the finalists for the 2004 Shortlist prize, to be handed out Nov. 15 in Los Angeles. As previously reported, the group will on Nov. 15 unveil "The Wilco Book," a volume of photos, essays and art bundled with an exclusive 12-track CD of previously unreleased music. Wilco will return to the road in 2005, with stints planned for North America, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. The Flaming Lips are busy with a variety of projects, including the completion of the long-in-the-works film "Christmas on Mars" and working on material for their next Warner Bros. studio album, tentatively due next summer. Sleater-Kinney recently played three shows in its Portland, Ore., hometown to stage test new songs intended for its next Kill Rock Stars album. "Now that we've played the songs live, we can't wait to get into the studio and mess with them," the band writes on its official Web site. "Only two more weeks until we head to the East Coast to record. We'll spend this interim time penning a few more tunes and tightening up the ones already written." -- Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.
