Basher
I know it is probably sacrilege to go to Detroit for Canada Day, but this Friday G. Love & Special Sauce and Los Lobos will be playing a free show. 2005 Comerica Tastefest The Brazilian Girls will also be playing on another stage the following day. Basher
The G. Love show on Friday was GREAT! It was at this festival called Tastefest, where they close several blocks down just north of downtown Detroit and have rows upon rows of booths selling samplers/full meals from Detroit's best restaurants. They also had a kids area and a total of 3 stages with bands. The only thing you pay for is parking and food/drink tickets - all the music is free!We did our "tastes" of Detroit's vegetarian offerings, picked up some yummy drinks, and headed over to the main stage at about 5:00PM. We staked out our seats 4 rows from the stage, but once the music started at 5:45PM there was no need for them. If you have not heard G. Love live you gotta check out a show or two - there are several on the archive in crispy SBD format (I suggest the 3/7/2005 show from Boston linked below). His whole show is a party.http://www.archive.org/audio/etree-details-db.php?id=23405
Kaidy Mae
G. Love sure is good times! We gotta get him back to Canada.Speaking of Detroit, I caught blues legend Alberta Adams's show at the Silver Dollar on Saturday night. Wowsa! What a lady. She is as old school motown, Detroit blues as it gets. If any of you ever get a chance to check her out, leap at the chance. She's no spring chicken, but she sure can belt out the tunes.
