lismore is a curious combination of glitch-pop, dirty guitars, lo-fi synthetics, fuzzy pianos, and ethereal vocals... and beats... can't forget the beats! in late 2002, lismore began as two jersey city neighbors built upon a call and answer showdown across 5th street between penelope trappes's voice and stephen hindman's electronic experiments. stephen previously was known in the music world as 'dj kingsize', one of the most respected producing pioneers within american drum and bass, but wanted to veer in a completely different aural direction. penelope, a poisonous vocalist originally from australia, previously fronted a couple of new york city jazz groups before deciding to take on a new, more creative trajectory.

after spending 2003 in the studio creating most of their debut full-length cd, we could connect or we could not, lismore decided to take their sound into the live realm, acquiring ingrid dahl on bass and damon gray on drums, morphing lismore into a rocking glitched-out shoegaze festival further fleshing out their odd strain of pop mechanics.

"the combination of lushness and minimalisim is intoxicating"

- grooves magazine

"...an attention getting combination of the electronic and the organic..."

- gay and lesbian times

"sweetly hypnotic vocals swirl around airy samples and funky driven beats. this disc transitions smoothly from lo-fi electronica to sultry torch songs. ݬike dee-lite would say, "groove is in the heart..." , among other places."

- hustler

"now, their debut album, we could connect or we could not, incorporates a curious meld of stripped-down alternative synth-pop-rock-immediately conjuring a pub gig in camden (or cardiff) by way of bristol.....this is an unusual album that grows with play and momentum, like albums used to back in the day, when there was a deliberate creative distinction between side a and side b."
