bradm
In the last few years, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has sued a boatload of individuals for allegedly making copyrighted material available via file sharing. Nettwerk, a label whose artists include Sarah McLachlan, The Barenaked Ladies, and others, has joined the other side of the controversy, and will be paying the legal expenses of a 15-year-old being sued by the RIAA. A Chicago law office (which has handled defense in RIAA suits before) will be taking the case. "Suing music fans is not the solution, it's the problem," stated Terry McBride, C.E.O of Nettwerk Music Group. "Litigation is not 'artist development.' Litigation is a deterrent to creativity and passion and it is hurting the business I love," insists McBride. "The current actions of the RIAA are not in my artists' best interests."
