From Pitchfork

Looks like it will be Confessions on a Desert Floor this spring, as Pitchfork has just been informed that Madonna will perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on April 30.

Madonna, meet Coachella. Coachella, meet Madonna. Has a nice Uma/Oprah ring to it, don't it?

Her Highness will rock the "Dance Tent" on the Indio, California fest's second day, and it won't be just another chintzy DJ/vocal set. We're talking a full-on extravaganza with dancers, costumes, lights, unicorns, spaceships, and rainbows (unicorns, spaceships, and rainbows not guaranteed).

This whole thing might be some lame attempt at ingratiating Madonna to the indie/hipster demographic, but it's not like she needs any help: we've all pretty much agreed that "Hung Up" rules (it came it at number 26 on our Top Singles of 2005 list, after all). And I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited about seeing Madonna play a tent in the desert.

As previously reported, Coachella will feature every cool band on the planet, as well as Matisyahu and She Wants Revenge.

The lineup, as it stands right now:

Saturday, April 29:

Depeche Mode, Daft Punk (dance tent), Franz Ferdinand, Sigur Rós, Common, Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley, Atmosphere, Carl Cox, My Morning Jacket, TV on the Radio, Ladytron , Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Tosca, Cat Power, Animal Collective, Hard-Fi, Derrick Carter, Devendra Banhart, She Wants Revenge, the Walkmen, the Juan Maclean, Audio Bullys, Imogen Heap, Lady Sovereign, Deerhoof, the Duke Spirit, Eagles of Death Metal, Lyrics Born, Matt Costa, the New Amsterdams, the Zutons, Platinum Pied Pipers, White Rose Movement, Chris Liberator, Colette, Joey Beltram, Hybrid, Wolfmother, the Like, Living Things, Nine Black Alps, Celebration, the Section Quartet, Shy FX & T Power, Infusion

Sunday, April 30:

Tool, Madonna (dance tent), Massive Attack, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Bloc Party, Paul Oakenfold, Scissor Sisters, Matisyahu, James Blunt, Sleater-Kinney, Mogwai, Coheed and Cambria, Gnarls Barkley, Coldcut, Phoenix, Digable Planets, Amadou & Mariam, Louie Vega, Mylo (DJ Set), Seu Jorge, Wolf Parade, Ted Leo/Pharmacists, the Go! i know. madonna freaking rules. i am SO excited for her tour this summer, i am somehow, some way, going for sure. here's hoping for something in s/w ontario. i read some article about it and her tour director was saying he really wants to mix it up this year, she's going to be playing some very small club venues in addition to the stadiums & arenas. overall, he wants to bring madonna (physically) closer to the people. that would be so effin' cool. and apparently this dance tent she's playing in at coachella is not even the big stage! that rules! i love how at almost 50 years old she's *still* raging the now. she said she's never played a festival before so she's looking forward to this.

she is such a smart lady. did you know that she purposely wears the exact same outfit when she goes jogging so that the paparazzi won't be able to sell any pictures they take of her? now THAT is clever. go madge. :)
