[color:navy]So SmoothedShredder, Myslef (The Chameleon) and DJ Syrum, all went on 3 mind blowingly smooth Steely Dan/Micheal McDonald tour dates!

HOly fuck was it good! Not only was the playing amazing and the bands so fuckin' tight (they're all top flight studio musicians), but it we were easily the youngest and most crazy kids on the tour. Needless to say it was a cougar hunt. It was like throwing ourselves to the lions! As you will se by the picture below. They loved Syrum, I think it was the 'satche.

Here's the one setlsit I recorded:

[color:blue]Highlights of the tour:

[color:navy]For McDonalds set, I keep Forgetting, Sweet Freedom and His gospel jam with the full choir was something to behold. And that dude has taken care of his trademark voice he can still hit the high notes.

The Dan set was insane and long too well over 2hrs. Time out of Mind was killer with the melodica solo. Third World Man was very special as they only played for this show as a jab at Donald Trump.

All in all Walter Becker really impressed me and reminded me a bit of Jerrr Garcia. Not because they paly the same was but because the have similar stylisitc concerns in their playing. Like Gacrica, Becker noodles toughfully behind the backdrop of the rhythm section and ties everything together in a slinky way. His playing is very jazz influenced and he had a suprising grasp of chroamaticism and apreggation. He is not the kind of played that stops you cold with jaw dropping licks, rathe like Garcia he entices and excites you with his killer sense of melody and phrasing. A joy to hear, very distinct.

I also love Kieth Carlock, so funky. He is a toip NYC session drummer and was the drummer on Fagen's recent solo effort (Morph the Cat).

[color:blue]Personal higlights: Syrum getting a slow dance during Dirty Work in Cincinattii by a 50 year old teacher named Lois who wanted us to party with them in Kentucy after! WOW! It was very tender.

Another key moment was SmoothedShreddar in drunken state telling the seated Cincinatti audience that "This type of attitute is why the REDs never win the pennant! Stand Up! ARGOS! priceless.

FUCK I can't wait for this again! I pray The Dan coems to T.O. Easily one of the best bands all time, in the jazz/pop world.

damn, just hearing the Dan play "Chain Lightning" would have made it all worth it for me.

I freakin' dig that mid/late '70's pop-jazz-rock shit.

i was listening to Aja on the way in this morning, and the way that the drummer and sax player go mental at the end made me smile...this thread is making me smile again. thank you.
