TheGoodRev
Has anybody here ever heard of this band? They were from Boston, played from 1993 until 2005 and did seven records. Guitarist/vocalist Geoff Farina was the driving force. Allmusic is calling them a 'post-rock' trio; their first couple records had some hardcore influence, but Farina is a trained jazz guy and by the time the later records came along they were really more of a jazzed-up songwriter/rock outfit. One of the guys at work is really into them and now I'm hooked, I'm about to order a couple of their discs (I've heard it all at work over the past couple months and it's incredible). Was just curious if anybody else was familiar. Allmusic entry Karate MySpace page - go listen to these tunes! zero
The Slip comparison is scary there. Seriously if I were to pick one band in the whole world that sounds a lot like the Slip it's Karate. Not so much instrumentally but there's a strong parallel, the songwriting and the singer remind me a lot of Brad Barr. I didn't think anyone else knew this group, nor that they were no longer a group.
TheGoodRev
I liked the Luke that posted musical feedback better. Even if it was mostly about the Slip. Seriously, though, I'm bumping this thread because I think people here should check out this band. They're not even together anymore but the music is GOOD and would appeal to many here I think. Here are two wild YouTube videos of this trio in action. They're very difficult to define...quicker for you to watch than for me to explain.Live video 1Live video
