Kanada Kev
From a buddy of mine in Florida:And yet they continue to put thousands in jail for using pot. Bah!Michaelhttp://www.11alive.com/news/article_news.aspx?storyid=96762&provider=topInteresting tidbit from the DoJ:http://www.druglibrary.org/schaffer/library/studies/YOUNG/young4.htmlUNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE Drug Enforcement Administration In The Matter Of MARIJUANA RESCHEDULING PETITION Docket No. 86-22 OPINION AND RECOMMENDED RULING, FINDINGS OF FACT, CONCLUSIONS OF LAW AND DECISION OF ADMINISTRATIVE LAW JUDGE FRANCIS L. YOUNG, Administrative Law Judge DATED: SEPTEMBER 6, 1988 Section 8 of Judge Young's "Findings of Fact, Conclusions of Law and Decision."[...]7. Drugs used in medicine are routinely given what is called an LD-50. The LD-50 rating indicates at what dosage fifty percent of test animals receiving a drug will die as a result of drug induced toxicity. A number of researchers have attempted to determine marijuana's LD-50 rating intest animals, without success. Simply stated, researchers have been unable to give animals enough marijuana to induce death.8. At present it is estimated that marijuana's LD-50 is around 1:20,000 or 1:40,000. In layman terms this means that in order to induce death amarijuana smoker would have to consume 20,000 to 40,000 times as much marijuana as is contained in one marijuana cigarette. NIDA-supplied marijuana cigarettes weigh approximately .9 grams. A smoker would theoretically have to consume nearly 1,500 pounds of marijuana within about fifteen minutes to induce a lethal response.9. In practical terms, marijuana cannot induce a lethal response as a result of drug-related toxicity.
bradm
Anyone know what the LD50 for tobacco (e.g., in cigarette form) is?Aloha,Brad
Kanada Kev
bradm,Wiki (i'm sure you checked ) had a few examples. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LD50Examples * Oral LD50 of grain alcohol: 10.6 g/kg in young rats, 7.06 g/kg in aged rats.[5] * Oral LD50 of nicotine: 50 mg/kg in rats.[6] * Oral LD50 of Table Salt: 3000 mg/kg in rats[7] * LD50 of Tetrahydrocannabinol (active ingredient found in Cannabis): 1270 mg/kg in rats. * LD50 of batrachotoxin: estimated at 1 to 2 µg/kg in humans.[citation needed] * LD50 of Polonium 210: estimated at 10 ng/kg (inhaled) to 50 ng/kg (ingested) in humans makes this one of the most toxic substances known. One gram in theory could poison 100 million people of which 50 million would die.
