Phil Lesh's New and Old Friends

Phil Lesh celebrated Independence Day weekend by hosting an intimate show at Mill Valley, CA’s Sweetwater Saloon as part of a weekend long Homeward Bound project. The gig featured a new group of friends, including longtime drummer John Molo, guitarist Barry Sless, Particle keyboardist Steve Molitz and rising Monterey, CA guitarist Jackie Greene. The ensemble ran through two sets of music over the course of the evening, including a show opening “Bird Song,†Greene’s “Ramble On,â€

the Allman Brothers Band’s “Midnight Rider,†Ryan Adams’ “Let It Ride,†“Viola Lee Blues,†“Eyes of the World†and a show closing “Casey Jones.†From the stage Lesh also dedicated the entire evening to ailing RatDog guitarist Mark Karan.

Stealth Lesh

As previously reported, over the weekend Phil Lesh hosted a Homeward Bound BBQ near his home in Ross, CA. Adding to the weekend, on Saturday Lesh performed an intimate show at Mill Valley, CA’s Sweetwater Saloon with John Molo, Jackie Green, Barry Sless and Steve Molitz. The following day Lesh and his “great friends" Molo, Green and Sless played a surprise gig at a private residence for those who participated in his Homeward Bound benefit. The setlist learned heavy of Dead staples like “Good Morning Little School Girl,†“Bertha,†“Deal,†“Friend of the Devil†and “Franklin's Tower,†as well as the second cover of the Allman

Brothers Band’s “Midnight Rider†in as many days. Meanwhile, Molitz skirted off to Houston, TX for the next stop on Particle’s summer tour with 311 and Matisyahu (it is also worthy to note that while Molitz played with Leah, the rest of Particle hosted a jam session at Austin’s The New Club under the name Below Radar). Lesh currently has no scheduled tour dates.
