phishtaper
thanks guys - some interesting reading. i actually use toothpaste and, as strange as it sounds, it works. i would never want to use hydrogen peroxide on my animals (or myself for that matter) out of fear of severely burning their eyes and skin - although it is an effective treatment. toothpaste is recommended by people I know at Ontario Veterinary College at UGuelph because it actually emulsifies the skunk oil and allows it to be rinsed off the hair AND its non-toxic, for them and me. just lather up with white (not gel) tootpaste and wash and rinse a couple of times. most shampoos either simply mask the smell temporarily or rinse off most, but not all, of the oil. toothpaste removes virtually 100% of the oil. regardless, not a fun thing to do on a friday night.
