kalen
Hey fellas, Here's a relatively new band that deserves some recognition. "Improvisation. Spontaneous creation. The essence of the jazz solo is not so different from the essence of freestyle. GRUVASYLUM is hip-hop with a jazz ideology. 100% improvised urban grooves, yet rooted in jazz lineage. Place these tenements in the hands of award-winning musicians and a berserker freestyle rapper... . . . and watch the walls b u r n d o w n . . . " If you dig "jazz jam bands" like Medeski Martin & Wood and Soulive, you'll love these guys. Check'em out Thursday September 11, at the Reverb (651 Queen St W.) in Toronto. They are part of a benefit for the Trinity-Spadina Green Party of Ontario. Show starts at 9PM Also playing will be Rhythmicru (hip hop) and Camarillo (organic and funky global jazz) (I personally have not heard these two acts yet, but I highly recommend GruvAsylum) Hope to see you there Jeff

SaggyBalls
this is at least the 3rd schoolyear that gruvasylum has been playing shows. catch em in london...they love it there. just don't be sad when the MC doesn't stay quiet when you'd like him to. he's good(a great junglist MC) and don't be sad if you don't like trills and fancy trumpet work. nick ali's infamous for his showiness. at least he can actually represent. word. gruvasylum are great. worth checking out for sure
