House of David Gang at Evolve 2009 w/ Special Guests The Ukaladies

Originally founded in the late 1980s, the House of David Gang has recently been revitalized and begun to establish a reputation as one of Canada’s finest and busiest live roots-reggae acts. Paying faithful homage to the classic Jamaican roots sound of the late 1970s and early 80s, House of David Gang adds jazz, funk hiphop, calypso, Afrobeat and folk flavours to their uniquely Canadian reggae mix. Now, they set out on their third national tour of 2009!

The new House of David Gang sound combines the authentic vocal and rhythmic wisdoms of frontman Desmond “King Selah†Anderson and drummer Collin “Jah-lin†Edwards with the eclectic talents of new members such as guitarist Jay “The High Plains Drifter†Clearyâ€, bass groover Chris Bottomley and keyboardist Henderson “Killa†King. Guest vocalists often include commanding and charismatic performers such as Michael Garrick.

The band combines innovative original material with classic songs from the legends of reggae. They frequently produce and perform in tribute concerts to giants such as Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer, Dennis Brown, Jackie Mittoo and Culture. House of David Gang gives back to communities cross the country at many of these events, through canned food drives and donation of proceeds to worthy causes.

House of David Gang’s fast-growing festival resume includes Hillside (Guelph, ON), Evolve (Antigonish, NS) and the Toronto Freedom Festival. The have headlined marquee Toronto venues such as Revival, Opera House, El Mocambo, Mod Club & Lee’s Palace; as well as the Paragon Theatre (Halifax), Savoy Theater (Glace Bay, NS), House of Reggae (Montreal) and Starlight Room (Waterloo, ON). They have shared the stage with the likes of two-time Juno nominee Jason Wilson, Chatta, Donna Makeda, Mountain Edge Band, Wassabi Collective, Half-Pint, Tanya P, Makaya, Michael Garrick and many others.
