CyberHippie
More teens smoke marijuana than cigarettes: Health Canada Ottawa — Teenagers are now more likely to smoke marijuana than cigarettes, a Health Canada survey says. That finding was recently presented to a parliamentary committee studying the bill that would lessen the penalties for possession of marijuana. The survey's conclusion that tobacco use ranks second to marijuana smoking comes as no surprise to drug researchers. An Ontario study from 2001 showed roughly 24 per cent of students smoked cigarettes, compared to 26 per cent who smoked marijuana. "I think what it means is that we have done a [better] job of convincing kids not to smoke tobacco, for whatever reason, than we have of convincing them not to use cannabis," said Richard Garlick, a spokesperson for the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse. http://toronto.cbc.ca/regional/servlet/View?filename=to_marijuana20031030 quote: I think what it means is that we have done a [better] job of convincing kids not to smoke tobacco, for whatever reason, than we have of convincing them not to use cannabis Now there's some deep insight. Big Wooly Mammoth
a key point there has to do with access..much easier for kids to get marijiuana than cigarettes. I also think that the increase in marijuana prevalence is somewhat due to an increase in truthful reporting given that much of the stigma associated with MJ has gone. remember these are surveys with self reported prevalence. Rary8
is this really a bad thing? I wouldn't consider pot "Good For You" but I definately would consider cigarrettes as "Bad For You." I think it's progress. Stupid media doesn't read it that way.
