SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) -- Grateful Dead founder Jerry Garcia's guitar-picking hand with a missing portion of his middle finger has been depicted in a bronze sculpture at the Santa Barbara Bowl.

The sculpture is part of the newly named Jerry Garcia Glen at the wooded entry bowl renovations paid with a $1 million gift from the Brittingham Family Foundation.

Garcia performed at the concert venue and the sculpture by artist Tom White is designed as a tribute to the musician.

Capital Campaign Cabinet foundation chair and self-described Deadhead Scott Brittingham told the Santa Barbara News-Press on Tuesday that Garcia would have appreciated the glen, which has been rehabilitated with indigenous vegetation and a new path along an enhanced nature creek bed.

Garcia lost two thirds of his right middle finger at age 4 while chopping wood with his older brother.

From the sculptor's site here are some pics of the statue (and the 8" version that you can order)

nice that they found a born again to do the work. Must have been a reference from Donna.

lol ... i noticed that on the sculptor's site as well. Lots of bronze Jesus statues, etc. :)

WWJD if he lost part of his finger? Well, you'd think he could just grow it back, but we know that never seems to happen. So, Jesus would simply become Jerry Garcia I guess ;)

WWJD ... the "J" is for Jerry, not Jesus ;)
