HOUSE OF DAVID GANG

HODG takes its name from a legendary rooftop apartment on Queen Street West in downtown Toronto; "The House of David" was the after hours spot of choice for the city's burgeoning reggae scene in the late 1980s / early 90s, a place where members of Selassie I Power, The Resinators, Revelation, Imagine Rainbow Warriors and special guest touring musicians who performed at The Legendary Bamboo Club earlier that evening would join together and jam late into the night. Now with a revamped line-up House of David Gang has been touring heavily in Central & Atlantic Canada, having performed at Evolve Festival (Antigonish, Nova Scotia), Salty Jam (Saint John, New Brunswick), Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival (Fredericton, New Brunswick), Ottawa Reggae Fest (Ontario), Come Together Fest (Owen Sound, Ontario), Barrie Caribfest (Ontario), Beer Fest (Toronto, Ontario), Irie Music Fest (Toronto, Ontario), Rasta Fest (Toronto, Ontario), Word on the Street Fest (Toronto, Ontario) and to over 20,000 people at the Toronto Freedom Festival in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

"House of David Gang is one of Canada's best Reggae Bands"

- Metro Morning - CBC Radio

COVER.jpg

House of David Gang is one of Toronto's longest running reggae acts. Named after a Queen West after-hours club run by band members in the late 80's and 90's, the reggae collective is near completion of their debut album, 20 years in the making. With 350 hours of studio time clocked at Snappy Homefry's Playhouse, over 20 musicians from Toronto reggae scene's participation and with funding support of the Ontairo Arts Council and FACTOR, the band is looking to its fans for financial support for the last step of the release of the album, slated for September which they will be pushing for a 2013 Juno Nomination.

House of David Gang is a Toronto-based reggae outfit that delivers late 70s and early 80s style Jamaican reggae originals mixed with folk, soul, calypso, afrobeat, hip hop as well as classic reggae material of Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer. Formed in Toronto over 20 years ago, the band is fronted by seasoned reggae veteran King Selah – a fixture of the Canadian Jamaican Reggae scene. The House of David Gang takes its name from the legendary House of David afterhours on Queen Street West in Toronto, where artists from the city's burgeoning reggae scene would meet to jam until sunrise.

In the last several years, "The Gang" has been one of Canada's busiest touring reggae bands. Their annual Bob Marley Birthday Tribute and Food Drive tour has become a staple of the winter music calendar across Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada. In Toronto, hundreds of reggae lovers come out for their springtime Original Wailers Showcase and Peter Tosh Tribute. House of David Gang has performed in front of thousands at the Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival, Atlantic Jazz Festival, Evolve Festival, Nufunk Festival, The Word On The Street, Ottawa Reggaefest, Toronto Freedom Festival, and more.

The Dirty Dubsters is a Dublin based production/DJ duo collaborating together on various productions and as part of the Break-Down crew since early 2006. Their sound is everything from nu funk, party breaks, bootlegs, breakbeat, drum n bass, hiphop and house. There is a definite theme running through all their tracks, with the majority of the tracks strongly glued down by reggae samples combined with big drum beats and fat driving bass grooves.

2010 was a busy year for the Dirty Dubsters, with over 60 tracks down over 20 different releases on various labels including their own digital label 'Dirty Dubster Digital'. Their digital label has proved very successful, with Dirty Dubster releases remaining in the bestseller lists consistently since the label was established. The 'Don't mean a thing if aint got that Swing EP' went to No. 5 best selling release on the entire Juno download site over all genres. The Dirty Dubsters profile has developed rapidly this year, with many well known producers and DJs proclaiming themselves fans of the big beat Dublin duo – including Fort Knox Five, Rust B (All Good Funk Alliance), Mr Benn, BadboE, Danny Massure, DJ Shepdog (niceUP! Records), Mungo HiFi, Fuzzbox Inc, DJ Wood, Pimpsoul, Slynk....... to name just a few.

Dirty Dubsters collaborated with many different MC’s from around the globe while working on their Dirty Dub-Plate Series. These included Bass Nacho (Florida, USA), Chip Fu (Las Vegas, USA), Whandah the Dainty Queen (New York, USA), Jah Clarity (Kingston, Jamaica) Screechy Dan (USA, JA.)
