SAT 3/29 Montreal Club Soda THU 4/10 London, Ont -TBA FRI 4/11 Toronto -TBA SAT 4/12 Toronto -TBA SUN 4/13 Hamilton, Ont -TBA Antibalas (Spanish for "Bulletproof" literally "Anti-bullets") is the next generation of afrobeat in the tradition of the Black President, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. This fourteen-plus piece band hits hard with the left and the right--monstrous horns and bass layered over funky polyrhythmic beats and breaks coupled with furious lyrics challenging and attacking the dehumanizing capitalist system and inciting insurrection in English, Yoruba, and Spanish. Antibalas formed in May 1998 of members of Desco Records' Soul Providers (now Dap-Kings) and Daktaris. This union of Latinos, whites, Afro-Americans, Africans and Asian-Americans resides in New York, spread out over Brooklyn, the Bronx and Jersey City. Antibalas performs several times a month at other clubs in New York and at political benefits for the Bertold Brecht forum, CHARAS/El Bohio, New York Zapatistas, Green Party, Rainforest Relief and numerous other progressive and radical organizations. Antibalas has spread their music and message across borders bringing their 3-Alarm Afrobeat blaze to festivals and world-class venues accross the United States, Canada, and Europe. Antibalas is ready to light-up the world with their sound . . . Is the world ready to shake some nyash?
