M Posted January 24, 2004 Report Share Posted January 24, 2004 from chart attack Art Garfunkel Arrested For Pot Art Garfunkel, the 62-year-old singer who puts the "Garfunkel" in Simon And Garfunkel, has been busted for smokin’ the chronic. Garfunkel was charged with possession of marijuana on Saturday at about 12:20 a.m. when his limo was pulled over for speeding near Albany, New York. Although he was found with only a small amount of the drug, the Americans take marijuana use and possession very seriously. According to the Associated Press, the trooper who arrested Garfunkel smelled the pot as he stepped up to the limousine. The trooper apparently didn’t even realize who he had arrested, even though Art apparently told the trooper he was a celebrity. It was only when they entered the station that state police Captain Louis Barbaria recognized the veteran folk-rocker. As it stands, Art faces a $100 fine for possession if this is, in fact his first offence within the last three years. Otherwise the fine could climb to $250 with a maximum incarceration time of 15 days. In musical news, Simon And Garfunkel have just completed their Old Friends reunion tour.
