Mr. Musicface
From a quick look at the InterBrew corp. site, it doesn't look like it'll have a big effect in the short term. One of InterBrew's biggest asset is Labatts, but they don't consider it one of their "Global Powerhouse Brands" (those are Stella & Becks, and they may add the Brazilian beer Bramha to that as AmBev's main brand.) so it probably doesn't mean much change for Canadian or other brands in the long term. InterBrew actually distributes a number of very good beers IMHO (Höegaarden, Keiths, Leffe, Bass, etc.) so as far as the availability of decent beer, this is probably a good thing. I do worry about diversity in the market when these kind of global super-giants come into existence, but frankly they're gonna take out the big companies like Anhiser-Busch & Molson before they effect great little local Canadian breweries like Unibroue, Camerons, Big Rock, Moosehead, Amsterdam, KLB, etc. etc. And even if they get bought out, InterBrew's history is to keep brands alive and brewed locally, so at least we'd still get Canadian beer brewed in Canada rather than Brazil or Belgium (beer import laws in Canada help with this too.) Peace, Mr. M.
