AdamH
we have rogers cable, and as a result the internet is always on. Mcafee anti-virus is always on. Sygate Firewall is always on too. Lately I've noticed quite alot of reports of port scanning according to the firewall program. Should I assume it's telling me about ATTEMPTS or should I be doing something about this. Like in the last 24 hours I've noticed more than two dozen port scans...
Del
I'm on Rogers as well, and I've never had a problem... I would say don't worry about, but definately aska person with more technical knowledge...
paisley
yeah, I get scanned fairly constantly, pretty much people just looking for a way in... every few hours I block whoever's IP address tried (mostly just hoping it'll piss them off) I'd just worry if you get someone trying with a trojan horse or such if you find they're on the same IP as you (use a Whois Search with their IP number) contact the abuse number the whois search gives you (or even if they aren't) I did that for a bit, now I just block their IPs
paisley
can also try something like PC Pitstop to test how secure your system appears to the outside world (and how well your system's running)
