Guest Low Roller
Galimov died in hospital.EDIT: Earlier reports of Salei missing the flight were wrong. He was in fact aboard the plane.
ollie
Ugh. I better stop adding to the speculation.
Guest Low Roller
EDIT via retweet from Eric Engles: "Galimov is alive and will be alive short-term, at least. His condition extremely critical. Had several surgeries" (Sport-Express)
ollie
Apparently the specific plan they were on had been banned in Europe due to safety concerns.http://deadspin.com/5838024/doomed-lokomotiv-yaroslavl-plane-was-banned-in-europe-due-to-safety-concerns
Guest Low Roller
The victims of yesterday's tragedy not even buried yet, the KHL has decided to hold a draft to rebuild the Lokomotiv team in time for league play to resume next week-end.Uhmmm... too soon? mister slippery
I believe that that supplemental draft is the way the NHL would do it too. Something like if 5 or more starters on an NHL team pass away, a league-wide supplemental draft is held.Pretty soon, no doubt, but there are a lot of contracts/ticket sales/ insurance issues that would likely necessitate the league start date.Or not, what do I know? ollie
Manchester United, who know air tragedies too well with the Munich disaster, sent a letter with condolences to Lokomotiv.
Guest Low Roller
Eye witness accounts say that they saw Galimov leave the plane under his own power to get away from the accident before collapsing to the ground. He is in critical condition at a hospital with severe burns to his body.
Guest Low Roller
Galimov succumbed to his injuries, making him the latest victim of the tragic plane crash. The Yaroslavl Lokomotiv team has announced that they will skip the entire season and focus on supporting the families of the victims, despite an initial announcement that they would rebuild the team in time for the season to continue (which was met with anger from the fans). Guest Low Roller
Pilot error is to blame for the plane crash that killed the team. An investigation concluded that the pilot accidentally hit the brakes during take-off which caused the plane to veer wildly and crash.
Northern Wish
Sounds like Russian airlines should be introduced to the concept of poka yoke.
