Formed in 2002 beneath the dramatic landscape of Vancouver BC, Themasses have developed a large, loyal following due to their unique, original style and solid musicianship. They have headlined over 80 shows including three appearances at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival and three intensive tours of Western Canada. Most recently, Themasses were featured at the inaugaral Bonfire Festival on the Sunshine Coast BC, where legendary guitarist Fareed Haque sat-in with the band for almost the entire set. Come see why people are calling Themasses "...one of the best live acts anywhere!" Also, be sure to pick-up their kick-ass new studio CD, produced by hot-shot producer Ben Kaplan (BNB, Blue Quarter, Freeflow + lots more) which features eight original tracks with some incredible guest musicians, including outstanding vocals from Sherry St. Germain and Chapman stick player extrordinaire, Olivier. CD RELEASE PARTY

  2. just added to the Evolve lineup this morning:

    THEMASSES (Vancouver BC)

    www.themasses.ca

Themasses' music is a blend of infectious beats and unique progressions without formulas or rules. It's created with the live performance in mind, where the crowd is the show and the dance floor is the stage. They combine organic electronica with funk, jazz and rock resulting in an upbeat, original sound that has been packing western Canada's dance floors consistently for almost three years. Themasses are: Mark Strachan (guitar), Ben F. Brown (keyboards), Eric Stephenson (bass) and Ali Siadat (drums)

Formed in 2002 beneath the dramatic landscape of Vancouver BC, Themasses have developed a large, loyal following due to their unique style and solid musicianship. They have headlined over 80 shows including three appearances at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival and three intensive tours of Western Canada. Currently, they are looking towards the future with plans of a major Canadian tour in support of their first full-length CD due in the fall of 2005.

  3. hey M

Are you talking about Neil Morrison? I've always thought he'd be a fun guy to party with. He has a funny segment on his show every day where callers phone him and use the term 'sons-of-bitches' in their question or statement, it's strange but funny. fyi: The FOX is a typical rock radio station with a very small and annoying play-list.

  4. If you miss Freeflow don't worry, they play like twice a month in town - they are definately a great show. Moses Mayes has only been here twice in the last few years, but they are here again on July 15th.

If you need any help with Vancouver stuff (info, directions, advice etc.) send me an email or post here. G'luck!

  5. whoa whoa whoa there StnMtn... you do NOT want to stay at the Waldorf. It is a pensioner hotel w/ old people and hookers. Besides, I think the guys are staying at my pad which is nearby the Waldorf. You're welcome to join the afterparty. As far as hotels, I's recommend anything that's not on Hastings street (unless it's an East Hastings address larger than 2200)

  6. HARPUAH/DRIE:

We've played Golden a few times (Themasses) and had them remove the stripper pole the last few. It's easy to do and they've never minded removing it. I licked it the first time we played there on a dare. It tasted like stripper.

We'll be there on Thursday August 18th, see you then!

  7. davie and jarvis is in the heart of the west end, the most densely populated area in North America (per capita). It's also the gay-man part of town (the lesbians are on Commercial Dr.) but there's a lot more than just gay people there, being so populated n' all. Ya it's safe, but so is all of Vancouver, even the sketchy areas rarely get violent to normal people.

$240? - are you sure it wasn't a typo? Maybe she meant $2400... cuz that's also one of the most expensive parts of town.

If it falls through, then I suggest looking in East Vancouver, near Main St. or Commercial Drive. They are great areas, close to everything and more affordable than downtown or Kits. Commercial Dr. is the organic/vegan/vegetarian/anti-corporate/anachist/artist/musician/food co-op type of area...

  8. jobs are everywhere, if you want a telesales job, then no problem - that's a huge industry in Vancouver. So is construction right now and service industry/tourism type jobs. I think once you meet a few peeps, then suddenly you'll know hundreds and you'll see them at every party and event you go to. Make sure you make it here by mid-June for the Bonfire Festival. G'luck!

ps: Vancouver is 100% mosquito free and your lightest, fleece jacket (and a raincoat) becomes your winter jacket.

  9. Lift is no longer - some members went on to form Stephen Franke and NFTT

BLUE QUARTER now lives in Vancouver - they rule.

Definately don't miss Bonfire, it's worth the 12 hour or so drive from Edmonchuk.

I see you moved to Edmonton... that would explain it. There's often good shows at the Sidetrack Cafe - keep an eye on their calendar. Other than that - perhaps you want to consider the odd trip down to Canmore (sometimes Calgary too) where great bands play all the time.

  10. I've been looking for one recently as well, let me know if you find any good deals. Me n' Lisa have been practicing the 'broken television, call the repairman' routine.

Repairman: "..hey, this TV isn't broken.."

Scantily-clad 80's porn star: "Oh that's strange. This is my friend Tori, she just stopped in to use the shower."

    Repairman: "Hellooo Tori"

  11. try contacting some local recording arts schools, they are often looking to gain experience and will possibly record you for free. Or maybe one of the students will help you out at his/her home studio... Before any of that, be sure to record your songs on your own (even if its with an 80's ghetto blaster) so you have somewhere to start.
