    NoPoPo !

No, not about cops http://www.weirdasianews.com/2007/09/09/pee-powered-batteries-on-sale-in-japan/ Pee Powered Batteries On Sale in Japan In February we talked about a Pee Powered battery that was in the testing phase in Japan. Now it would seem they have made it to the store for the Japanese to buy and use. NoPoPo (Non-Pollution Power) Aqua Batteries are available in both AA and AAA form, although the company page shows they are producing the technology for all sizes of battery, and can only be currently purchased in Japan. The batteries can be recharged with various different fluids using the new development which forms electric power using liquid as a catalyst. The basic principle is that a mixture of magnesium and carbon reacts when mixed with a liquid to produce, in the case of the AA battery, up to 500 milliamp-hours (mAh) of life. Each time the battery is recharged it has a lower power level than the time before and the life cycle allows for about 3 to 5 recharges before disposing of the battery. Each battery can potentially keep its charge for up to 10 years which could be great for many life saving devices in remote locations. Since the battery does not contain mercury and other harmful materials, it can be easily disposed of without worry for the environment. So the next time your batteries let you down, just pee on them. (*Will probably help if they are produced by NoPoPo.)
  2. http://www.poughkeepsiejournal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070908/ENT04/70909015 Saturday, September 8, 2007 Phish rhythm section checks out Levon Bass player Mike Gordon and drummer Jon Fishman, one-half of the now disbanded jam band Phish, were in Woodstock Saturday night for Levon Helm's Midnight Ramble, a house concert the former drummer for the Band stages on a semi-regular basis at his recording studio. Fishman said he was in the Hudson Valley visiting a friend in New Paltz and asked his manager, who also represents Gordon, to make an inquiry about attending the Ramble. Fishman and Gordon watched a portion of the Ramble from a raised viewing area behind the Levon Helm Band. Gordon stayed there for most of the night but Fishman ventured out to the second-floor of Levon Helm Studios, where the audience sat, for a bird's-eye view of Helm's drumming technique. Asked what he thought of the Ramble and seeing Helm play, Fishman flashed a wide smile and said, "Oh my God." Neither of the former Phish members performed at the Ramble. Gordon and Fishman, who along with guitarist Trey Anastasio and keyboard player Page McConnell comprised one of rock 'n roll's most popular touring bands ever, became the latest musical luminaries to perform at a Ramble with Helm, a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. On Aug. 25, bluegrass mandolin picker Ricky Skaggs sat in with the Levon Helm Band and on June 2, Gillian Welch and the Levon Helm Band played a rousing version of Johnny and June Carter Cash's "Jackson." In the past, Danny Louis of Gov't Mule, Elvis Costello, Emmylou Harris and Donald Fagen of Steely Dan have showed up to the Ramble and sat in with the Levon Helm Band. Fishman and Gordon's attendance at the Ramble Saturday night marked yet another link between Phish and Woodstock. Phish recorded albums at Bearsville Studios in Woodstock and while in town, band members hung out at the old Tinker Street Cafe and Pine Crest Lodge, two Woodstock bars. Gordon told the Journal in 2002 that Anastasio modeled his Vermont recording studio, known as "The Barn," after Bearsville Studios. Also, during Phish's hiatus in October 2002, two months before the band's much anticipated reunion show at Madison Square Garden, Gordon and Anastasio played a surprise performance together at Allaire Studios in Shokan, during a Woodstock Film Festival party. Helm's next Ramble is set for Sept. 29, when a Kid's Ramble will be held during the day and a traditional Ramble will be held at night. To read about the Ramble and former Bob Dylan sideman Larry Campbell, a member of the Levon Helm Band, click on the link to the right. Also, Helm's first new album in more than a decade, "Dirt Farmer," comes out Oct. 30.

  9. LOL ... thanks. I'm not really a gamer. I grew up hanging out at the pool hall/arcade up the street and watched vid games evolve. Loved 'em. Haven't been into them for years now though. I do have an older XBox with a bunch of games for my son. I enjoy playing Lego Star Wars games on there with him . I just don't "get" some games though: http://www.bcfxgame.com/trailer.htm
  10. My Father's Eyes by Eric Clapton Sailing down behind the sun, Waiting for my prince to come. Praying for the healing rain To restore my soul again. Just a toerag on the run. How did I get here? What have I done? When will all my hopes arise? How will I know him? When I look in my father's eyes. My father's eyes. When I look in my father's eyes. My father's eyes. Then the light begins to shine And I hear those ancient lullabies. And as I watch this seedling grow, Feel my heart start to overflow. Where do I find the words to say? How do I teach him? What do we play? Bit by bit, I've realized That's when I need them, That's when I need my father's eyes. My father's eyes. That's when I need my father's eyes. My father's eyes. Then the jagged edge appears Through the distant clouds of tears. I'm like a bridge that was washed away; My foundations were made of clay. As my soul slides down to die. How could I lose him? What did I try? Bit by bit, I've realized That he was here with me; I looked into my father's eyes. My father's eyes. I looked into my father's eyes. My father's eyes. My father's eyes. My father's eyes. I looked into my father's eyes. My father's eyes. Toerag is a British slang term for a worthless person, by analogy with the strips of cloth that vagrants wear in place of socks.

  13. Yup still the stupid walk and all ... i never liked that song, however, seeing it live they make it kinda funny and tolerable. I was just pleased as punch to see Rutherford up there with a double neck (12-string and bass) wonking away to the old stuff. Listen to his bass lines in the 70s and they'll blow you away (a very melodic bass player like Gordon and Lesh).
  14. Not a flashlight, but a potlight on the stage. You up for some preshow festivities??? There are a bunch of Genesis freaks that I know who will be having pints at the Foggy Dew (King just west of Bathurst). Park the El Camino up around there and have a nice 15min walk to the stadium (hmmmmm what to do while walking for that amount of time?? ) http://thefoggydew.sites.toronto.com/ http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=803+King+St.+W.&sll=43.640967,-79.409051&sspn=0.007951,0.011973&ie=UTF8&ll=43.6429,-79.407431&spn=0.003975,0.005987&t=h&z=17&iwloc=addr&om=1

  18. I GOT IN ! While I am a fan of the 71-80 material the most, they have really provided a wide spectrum of their catalogue to satisfy fans of all eras of Genesis well. As always, they put on a great, and entertaining show. It was a bit "hollow" in the ACC with only about 200 people there, but Friday at BMO Field should be a blast. The 'show' itself ran for 2½ hours and those who were in attendance were visually treated for the first time to the arena stage setup and the same setlist as the European leg, although the band have 2 other rehearsed songs on the back-burner should they wish to change it up a little. Here's the setlist: Behind The Lines… Duke’s End… Turn It On Again No Son Of Mine Land Of Confusion In The Cage… Cinema Show… Duke’s Travels… Afterglow Hold On My Heart <--- B A R F Home By The Sea Follow You Follow Me Firth Of Fifth… I Know What I Like Mama Ripples Throwing It All Away Domino Drum Duet… Los Endos Tonight, Tonight, Tonight… Invisible Touch I Can’t Dance Carpet Crawlers http://www.citynews.ca/news/news_14449.aspx I feel very fortunate to be seeing so many of the greatest drummers around in this year. I've seen the mind-blowing chops of Phil Collins, Chester Thompson, Neil Peart, Terry Bozzio and Joe Travers (you gotta see this guy, he plays with Zappa Plays Zappa right now ... WOW!) http://www.zappaplayszappa.com/players.html How did I get in??? I kinda lucked out. A buddy called me and said he was trying to work an angle with a connection of his. Didn't work out. However, he was able to get 3 passes via the Genesis fan club forum after he did a bit of grovelling I think. Too bad, because those went to him, Lilly, and Andrew K (all worthy ) and couldn't get a fourth for me since I wasn't a 'member' of that fan club. I read a post on the TMB list yesterday that said they they were going to be interviewed on CBC Radio. I read that right as the show started!!! fuÇk. I ran downstairs and tried to find the radio studio they were in. I, of course, hung around outside the wrong damn one. I called the interviewer, Jian Gomeshi, after to talk to him. He said they were all super friendly and really good to interview. Even he didn't know about the dress rehearsal. Here's the podcast of the interview: http://podcast.cbc.ca/mp3/qpodcast_20070905_3233.mp3 So, after I lost the chance to shake their hands and say hi, i decided to boot over to the ACC after i got off work at 4:15. Went up to one of the women with the magical lists and told her "My name isn't on the list, but the boys were just at the CBC, where I work, and I was told there may be a possibility that I could get in to the show". She instantly laid a pass on me and I was good to go I'm lucking out with Genesis lately ... the dress rehearsal (full show), won tix on Q107 for the concert on Friday, etc. .... I'm looking for that Ottawa contest to come through now. They come in 3s right??? Here's a link to a few piss-poor pics from my cell phone and some video (with horrid sound) ... but it was only last night http://tinyurl.com/2vsq4j Later . . . Kanada Kev =8)
