  1. he first time we played in Toronto was after Phil in the summer of 2000 or 1999, probably 2000. We either stayed at the Royal York(jay's crazy tavel agent deals) or drove back after the show. I remember being amazed that anyone came to see us. good times!

I checked my concert diary which lists ALL the shows I went to from the summer of '99 to the end of '01 and I also checked all my DAT's. The earliest recording I have of nero is November 3, 2000 at the Zone. I didn't go DAT until 10/22/99 and never taped nero on analog cassette.

I also remember very clearly that both Velvet and Dave told me at different points throughout the night that it was the very first show the band had played outside of the Ottawa area.

You guys had your 4-track recorder out but something didn't work out and so you traded me a copy of your very first album for a copy of the show. It was a cd-r that you guys burned and were selling at the time.

This was not an after Phil show or any type of after party, you guys just showed up to play a regular gig .

  2. i don't know what jaimoe is getting at, but i'd say this:

    smartcar.jpg

    getting hit by this:

    Big%20SUV.jpg

    wouldn't make a pretty picture.

Chances are the person in the Smart car would walk away from it, even if the car would probably be a write off. With the full roll cage the Smart car is a very safe car to drive. Haven't you seen Nascar were they hit the wall head-on at insane speeds and walk-away in most cases? Same idea with the Smart car.

Jaimoe the Smart car handles fine on the highway, I have no idea what you are talking about. I've driven on the 400 series highways with one before and never had any problems.

There were two problems with it that I found:

    1. The engine was a little on the loud side but I guess thats because it's a diesel engine.

    and

    2. The top of the line stereo system sucks!! Don't waste your money on it, I'd go out get something professionally installed after you bought it.

  3. Toronto's clubs are dying because the folks that come out to the clubs to take in jazz either will drink water or nurse a single cocktail all evening and the club owners cannot afford to pay the artists and their operating costs...simple as that...

    prices...

Just to clear something up here. The Montreal Bistro closed because their lease expired and the owners of the property are turning it into a parking garage from what I've heard.

BTW I only listen to 91.1 at night and it always seems to play different way out stuff so unless their daytime programming is different I don't understand these comparisons to the crappy Q107.

  4. shwarmas... sarah's or Ghazale both on bloor..Sarahs is close to spadina stn (slightly west, south side) Ghazale is west of Bathurst stn (north side, next to bloor cinema)

Ghazale I hate to say SUCKS now. I went there the night of Tony Levin and for the first time ever I was let down big.

The whole place has been redone and seems to be under new management along with all new staff.

  5. Here's the complete setlist:

    StinkFoot

    Inca Roads

    Don’t Eat The Yellow Snow

    St. Alphonzo’s Pancake Breakfast

    I’m So Cute (TB)

    Pound For Brown (TB)

Tryin’ To Grow A Chin (TB)

Black Page No. 2 (TB. Steve Vai)

    Peaches En Regalia

    Village Of The Sun

    Montana (Steve Vai)

Trouble Every Day (TB, Steve Vai)

...shit almost forgot that Peaches. Sweet god it was great. Close as i'll ever get, and even though Project Object at the Comfort Zone was great, this was a concert proper in a big theatre.... The drummer (I think it's the 'Z' band drummer - Joe Travers) sang some of Frank's leads and played incredibly the whole show...

That is far from the complete setlist. Here is the FULL version, btw at least 6 people taped it and 4 have been made available so far.

  6. next time, try bringing a chick with you and have her do the driving through the border check. i find they're always easier on girls. Not that it's right for them to treat ladies differently, but they do nonetheless.

I disagree with that statement. The ONLY 2 times I've ever had a problem getting into the States have both been with women driving.

BTW nobody has mentioned this yet but once you are refused entry into the States you can't cross for a minimum of 3(?) years.

  7. Disc One

    d1t01 Intro + > [1:27]

d1t02 All that You Dream [8:13]

d1t03 Hate to Lose Your Lovin' [4:43]

    d1t04 Honest Man [6:35]

    d1t05 Cold Cold Cold [7:39]

d1t06 Easy to Slip > I Know You Rider > Easy To Slip [10:22]

    d1t07 Just Another Sunday [12:32]

    d1t08 Heaven's Forsaken [5:52]

    d1t09 Spanish Moon > [10:32]

d1t10 Skin It Back > Day At The Dog Races [17:30]

    Disc Two

    d2t01 Jam > Dark Star tease > [6:17]

d2t02 Dixie Chicken > Kenny Bass Solo > Billy Keys Solo** > [8:44]

    d2t03 Tennessee Jed > [5:35]

    d2t04 Dixie Chicken [10:30]

d2t05 Fat Man in the Bathtub > [4:33]

    d2t06 Get Up Stand Up > Eden's Wall Tease > Drums > [8:25]

d2t07 Fat Man In The Bathtub [2:27]

    Encore:

    d2t08 Willin' > Don't Bogart That Joint > Willin' [9:15].

I might recommend that it go like this:

    Disc #1

    d1t01-d1t08 + d2t08

    Disc #2

    d1t09-d1t10 + d2t01-d2t07

I believe that would keep you under 80mins a disc. I've seen this done many times for 2 set shows were set 1 wasn't very long, I do realize this is a one set show though so you might favour the 3 disc method instead.

  8. Right on, Tim. Did you notice any tapers there by any chance? Wondering if he's allowing taping.

I had both audio and video running in Toronto and the guy beside me had one of those pro video camaras (the ones that cost $4000) and had no problems either. Didn't need to clear it with anyone beforehand, just went in and set up.

And as for the show it was mediocre at best. The instrumental stuff was GREAT but the singing was boring as hell and since he was promoting his new cd which is the first to have vocals he concentrated more on the vocal stuff.

  9. Where did you see this info? I checked around the Denon and Marantz websites and didn't come across any mention of the sale at all.

What time does this sale start tomorrow? I'd be able to come down right after work but would not want to brave rush hour traffic coming into the city in the morning only to find out they don't start the sale until 10 or 11am.

I'd love a chance to upgrade some of my stereo equipment at really cheap prices.
