BERLIN (AP) - The head of Germany's foreign intelligence agency said in an interview published Saturday that he believes Osama bin Laden ( news - web sites) is still alive and hiding along the border between Afghanistan ( news - web sites) and Pakistan.
Reuters Photo
August Hanning, the head of the Federal Intelligence Service, also estimated that more than 5,000 supporters of al-Qaida and Afghanistan's ousted Taliban militia remain in Afghanistan and neighboring Pakistan, while many others have returned to their homelands.
"They are preparing attacks from their new locations — they will try everything to strike again," he was quoted as saying in the Welt am Sonntag newspaper. "We must be prepared for that."
He referred to no specific plans.
Bin Laden and his al-Qaida terrorist network are held responsible for the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the United States. Shortly after the attacks, Bush said he wanted bin Laden "dead or alive."
Since then, Bush and other U.S. officials have played down the search for bin Laden, saying the more important goal is disrupting al-Qaida and preventing future attacks.
"As our knowledge stands, we are convinced that bin Laden is still alive, in the border region of Afghanistan and Pakistan," Hanning was quoted as saying.
"He is still the symbolic figurehead of al-Qaida, but apparently moves around little and when he does, in a very secretive manner," Hanning added, without elaborating.
Last Monday, President Bush ( news - web sites) said he does not know whether bin Laden is dead or alive.
German security agencies have worked closely with their counterparts in the United States to investigate the Sept. 11 attacks after it emerged that three of the suicide hijackers had lived undetected in Hamburg.
Hanning said bin Laden was consulted in planning for major al-Qaida attacks "but he did not operationally prepare the actions, and probably didn't even know all the details of the preparations."
He added the preparations for Sept. 11 "didn't cost much more than $1 million."

Meggo, how are you feeling? I trust everything went OK!!

Phil was a lot of fun but a bit slow i thought. That is very very fine though. Shakedown to open was fun, as well as the Box of Rain.
NERO FUCKIN ROCKED ME!!!!
That was the first time i have seen them live and man all i can say to you Ottawa Peeps is "WOW ARE YOU LUCKY!!"
I never stopped rockin out the whole time. Aside from about 10 minutes where i had to collect myself from exhaustion, i was bustin it out.
secondtube and Pablo, it was cool to meet you guys, GOOD SHOW.
didn't get to meet as many skanks as i had hoped but i will soon enough.

Whose got my Pharmies?!!
I LOVE drugs. They are fun for sitting around and listening to music or playing foosball or anything. Weed makes everything better no matter what it is.
As far as the crazy chemies are concerned, i usually save them for the concert experience.
My two cents.

you guys both have it!! Exaxtly where the stealie is is the best place to go. Even back a little further, but that is perfect. Good times on the rocks by the water were had there for PHish99.
Keri, remember to call me at 8. I didn't get a hold of Chewie at all tonight, he doesn't have his phone ON most of the time i think.
CHEWIE if you read this call me before you leave, cause kdog and me are goin up as well.
-
See you there Robb and Jess. I have your # and will be calling you when we get to Toronto to make sure we hook up when there.
See you today!!!
-
I just put up a similar post. Check it out. I think byu the water on the side lot. OUt of the way and easy to see the fuzz coming if need be.
-
Where are we goi8ng to meet for the show tomorrow?
I suggest the side lot by the water, but if anyone has better ideas, i'm not real familiar with the area.
Bring on the suggestions. Maybe Ms. Hux could bring the Canadian Flag for a land marker.

Hey there chatham peepull. No go on the zoom zooms.
I guess we'll have to fly this one solo. Unless anyone out there knows a guy who knows a guy, i'm all tapped out.
BUMMER!
This is me with no boombooms -->
Oh ya a reminder to anyone not doing anything tonight, Collins' Stag is at the Old Schoolhouse. Be there or be SQUARE.
-
OOOOOOHHHHHH that one of the saloon ker.
Yes very nice. Well done bouche.
-
"Gotta Schwill brah?"
I'll boomitupasmuchasican kerdog.
-
Muppets for sure!
-
OK dude! i should be able to get them.
-
Chewie, to answer your question, i can probably get some of the same zoomers we had for the phil show. Were they good or what!! I think we should all meet at the Swift's and go from there. Its on the right side of town for everyone and easy and quick to leave town from there as well. I am all about getting there early for some vittles and chillin and scoop game in the field before the show. Lets make a day of it!
Hey ACE, ask your "old lady" if she wants to cook up some food for us before the show. I know how much she loves to cook for everyone. We can work this shit out later.
Oh ya, it is collins' stag and doe on Saturday in case any of the Chatham Peeps are interested. It is at that old schoolhouse (the old western wing, 9am classes, 1915) on Bloomfield Rd heading out of town toward the 401. I think you all know the place.
(just a little Alexander II there for ya's)
Anyhow i think 12 is a good time to depart-y. What do ya'll think?
Talk to you soon, i have to go put in my 2nd 8 hour stint at work today.
PS- Good to hear that you got the nod there ACE!!
Oh ya ACE, i came across this one day and thought that if you begged real hard, bouche would let you use this as your avatar.
What do you think there bouche?
-
Hey new twist.
Just talked to ACE and he told me basically what his post says, so i called KC and left a message. He should be getting back to me via e-mail pretty soon and we can finalize the deal. I AM SO PSYCHED FOR THIS SHOW!
Haven't seen the Panic since this time last year and am super psyched. (did i say that already?)
"Schools out for summer!!"
Remember the tabs of fun that dude gave us last year? 10 for 30, What a show!!
-
Chewie. Not too sure of the ride situation as of yet. I'd love to stick to the trend of you get the tix and i'll get you there, but unfortunatly i have a POS truck now that won't get me beyond the city limits. If you are willing to drive your car down there though, I WILL get us home as usual.
Some food for thought anyway. BTW Heather will not be making the trip anymore, Phil and the Brothers wore her out something aweful. She still has some tolerance to build up. just jokin. anyhow, the list of folks making the trip looks like the same old kik ass group of hardcore Chathamites. Should be a classic good time. The field just beyond the lot should be a good meeting place in case we don't travel together.
Gettin a little long winded here. Talk at ya later bro,

living in chatham affords us here the luxury of seeing a lot of shows in Detroit. Hence i have become somewhat of a pro at the crossing. Everyone here has infact. ABSOLUTELY NO PARAFENALIA goes across. Only barebones what you need because you can always buy rollies when you get there or whatever else you need. A little tip for ya though, lots of safety pins and a very tight roll up job in the bag and then a layer or two of plastic wrap and then stick it inside the flap of your gitch right next to your junk. It sounds shitty but i have yet to have a problem. (knock on wood) I used to go to school in windsor at the U there and i have crossed more times tha\n i can count, and the one thing i would tell you for safe crossing is to be calm and tell the truth. the people there are trained to pick up twitches to tell them that you are lieing. So if they ask you if you whrer you are going just tell them straight that it is a show and be confident.
Hope that helps.
