  1. Thanks for the comments people, it's giving me some perspective for sure. I gather douchebags are the norm but just wanted to hear if cool people would come out of the woods for something good or if that species is pretty much extinct in the area and we'd be better off booking a 4th generation nickelback style band.

Also wondering if indie hipster club kids would frequent the area or if even they are not going near there.

Elizabeth Shepherd pushes the boundaries of what is considered conventional jazz, all the while creating a sound completely her own. From London to Tokyo, Elizabeth has captivated audiences and critics on both sides of the pond. Her Juno nominated debut album, Start To Move continues to receive critical acclaim, and was voted the Top 3 Jazz Albums of the Year by the listeners of the Gilles Peterson show on BBC Radio 1 UK in 2006.

Her latest album, Heavy Falls The Night, has been receiving critical acclaim across the country...

Describing this hazy, hallucinogenic album from Brooklyn's Julianna Barwick, you can neatly take Panda Bear's trippier tracks as a jumping off point, as Barwick loops and layers beautiful vocal harmonies with a similar slow-motion deep sea vibe. But this lovely debut is more than just derivative, and the wordless sound collages are transporting. -other music

Brooklynite Julianna Barwick’s voice is high, lucid and vaguely spiritual, like that of a child in a Christian-themed horror film. Her songs feature hardly any discernible words, yet few local musicians are so vocally oriented. On her self-released Sanguine, Barwick employs a guitar pedal to loop her voice, effectively creating her own backing choir through a modest four-track. Her overlapping vocals—almost entirely devoted to desperate Scrabble ploys like ahh or ooh—mesh together in a lovely blur. While Barwick rarely mimics the sound of an instrument, her web of vocals ultimately fills the role traditionally held by a band (aside from an occasional guitar, the album is largely a cappella).

  4. Both bands at the Hamilton show were superb. Diesel Dog killed. Dan Walsh is a great addition.

I would not say they stole the show from Colonel Bruce's band though.. The colonel's band was pretty tight. It was their 2nd show together with the Colonel (Toronto being their 1st) The guitar player and the drummer did know the colonel's music very well. They used to be hard-core ARU heads back in the early nineties.. I grew up with them. While most of our friends were going to see the Dead and Phish, those 2 were driving around the States checking out ARU shows so they were the right people to be in his band.

I was also thoroughly impressed with the keyboard player and Drummer. Lots of great solo's from all in the band.

The Colonel himself was actually in a more energetic state then the original codetalkers pjc show.

The playing might have been great, but not "epic" to some but personally I was really just thrilled to be hearing so many aru classics and the colonel being so into it.

The crowd was cool too. Young people?!?! God bless them. Lots of old-school heads missing which I was surprised at but maybe people really don't remember ARU all that much. Anyone who was once a fan, missed out, if they didn't make it.

Thanks to anyone who made it out and thanks to Diesel Dog and the Colonel and his band especially Chris Cawthray. the drummer who spearheaded this small tour.

    Set list is coming...

Anyway thanks for coming if you did. We will try and do it again next year.

  6. Yeah the drop at 4:50 is dope but the previous minute is a bit cheese. GLK does not get feel- goody so much, he's gets darker and digs deeper imo. Also would rather see a dope dj in a small bar then a huge frat house but gaslamp plays big clubs too.

Either way of course it's all just a matter of taste I'm definitely biased toward glk. I booked him in Ontario a couple years ago, seen him thrice and thinks his djing, producing and style are all top shelf. Rusko and DZ are super-dope too but arguably not out of the league of the muthafucking gaslamp killer.

  7. They don't have tickets no, but they will this eve.

I'll put your name at the door questcequecest for the advance ticket price since you made the trip. Don't worry about getting down beforehand. Sorry about the confusion.

Tickets are also available online at www.thisainthollywood.ca

On another note.. check this preview on a new documentary coming out on Bruce... Brings it all home.
