  1. Hey buddy,

Hope things are well out there. We have meaning to call, but Spiegel is my bitch.

As for the Bus, the thing I have noticed is that while they do play very good songs, have very nice vocal harmonies and jam progressively- I think the thing that gets most people is the ability of the band to be totally non abrasive. There isn't one song in the repetoire that would chase you away. They seem to take that SCI vibe of just playing digestable music. Not that I don't like it, but there haven't been many moments at my Bus experiences where I said "Holy crap, enough already!" and waited for the next change in a jam(which has happened at most of the shows I have attended). They almost seem to be the boy band of the jamband scene, by just writing pretty melodies and not jamming "hard".

I would say the big draw is that the music is palatable by anyone.

  2. In response to the thread about Xmas albums, I got to thinking about the evolution of my musical consumption. I think we all have a few friends, uncles, parents who introduced us to alot of the music we love. But there are also bands that have opened doors to a plethora of new music. First of which in my life is Phish. Over the years I have examined their covers and sought out original versions, much to my delight and surprise at times.

The question is which bands have influenced your listening the most.

Mine of course is Phish. Other than the obvious playmates like MMW, Widespread etc. there are tonnes of acts that I now love that I first investigated as a result of a Phishy tape.

    My list would include:

    Little Feat

    Pavement

    Taj Mahal

    Talking Heads

and of course (though I had an inkling of them prior to 10.31.98) Velvet Underground.

Taking in all the obvious influences, these are bands that I LOVE and found directly as a result of Phish covering em.

Just a question/ thought before I head out to work.

  3. Hell Yeah I like the Talking Heads......

I actually have the video version of Stop Making Sense (you can pick it up at any record store for less than $15 since it was reissued).

Most of the time I prefer Songs about...., Remain in Light and the albums but I do have quite a few live shows that are of killer quality. And another circulating show that is top notch is a David Byrne solo show from Halloween 92, featuring a mix of Heads/ Byrne solo stuff. This show is a great cd anytime!!!

    "This was a parking lot,

    Now its a peaceful oasis.

You Got It, You Got It

    This was a shopping mall,

Now its all covered with daisies.

You Got It, You Got It

    Don't leave me standing here,

I can't get used to this lifestyle."

    - Nothing but Flowers

Thanks mark, its going to be a head filled day........

  4. Do you think that should have been his call to "share" this stuff? Ha ha ha. I think Mr TG himself posted this a while back. I don' think he is to proud of it though. I think it was part of a program to get high school students to electronically put together a poetry forum.

Eric, pretty soon you will be famous! But not for your poetry.......

You should see the shit I wrote at that age. Thank god you can't search for it on google.

ps. How the hell are ya MC?

  6. Jomomma are currently on tour here in the Maritimes. I know they have been in Fredericton all weekend and aren't going to be home in Ontario until the 25th or so.

You might want to check with Mark Wilson, or Diesel Dog- members of both frequent this board.....

Good choice though, I saw my first two shows with the new lineup on Thursday and Friday and thought both were great! Although the party atmosphere of Fredericton made that one top notch.....

    Peace

  7. Doesn't music make the world go round?

The most meaningful, weird, perfect moment with a song occured as the weary Starship Harpua (our rented RV) limped back up the 401 from the Big Cypress adventure. Everyone was out of their slumber just waiting to get home and out of that vehicle. When we passed the Welcome to London sign, almost as a sign from above: Thin Lizzys "The Boys are Back in Town" came blasting on the local radio station. Quite cool. Just ask Scottieking, and AD.

My second moment was after moving to Saint John, New Brunswick in March from Ontario. The first night I went out to a bar to check out a band it was for BNB. We went earlier in the afternoon to see where the bar was, admission etc. When we walked through the door- Jomomma was playing! Man that took me right back home.......

And the funniest moment I had was with Tungsten and another old friend in a grocery store in Columbus OH. We were around 9 days into Summer Tour 2000 and were lacking in both the sleep and brain cell departments. Somehow a Muzak version of Bob Marleys "Stir it UP" just made us weird. The song culminated in Eric, Mike and myself lying in a grocery isle crying with laughter. I don't really even remember what went on, but I suspect it had something to do with Dr Zimmermans Goat Logs...........

  9. As always, I wish you good vibes and happenings along the way.

Just remember the words of one of our musical forefathers:

"Life is what happens while you are busy making plans."

    JLennon

And for god sakes get out to the Maritimes. I need a little nero fix.

    Sean

  10. I have infact been keeping a show diary since Fall 96.

I have entered every show I have been to, the location, who I went with, and the setlist.

It was a great idea to start, since I probably wouldn't remember most of it without the print copy.

If I can help let me know.

    Sean

  11. If anyone from Jomomma reads this (call us beforehand at 506 693 5184), or anyone at all who has any information.......

What are the upcoming tour dates. I know this weekend you are in Fredericton, but Saturday night I was out at GTB and noticed a sign in the bar that said Jomomma was coming to Saint John on Thursday the 17th. What gives?

I've got my dancin shoes all polished up!

    Sean

  12. Good point!

I believe every one of the bands (though some may have internationally born players) were all from the continental US. Unless Ozomatli got a pity nomination.

We should all email (politely!!) and ask them in include some kind of non US category.

Do you think it would work?

    Sean

  13. Ha ha ha ha

You hit the nail on the head with that one. How about any live version when Donna is wailing. Near the end of her run, she starts to cool it a bit and it does not annoy my ears quite as much. But a friend of ours has an idea for all of you audio engineers out there. Would it be possible to isolate the track she is on from any particular version and erase the Yoko-esque blood curdling screams?

    Kind of a Donna-nator?

    Sean

  14. Personally I have always liked both Bobby and Brent tunes..... Oh well, I don't mind the Meters singing either.

As far as worst Dead tunes:

    They Love Each Other

CC Rider (not a true original I know...)

    Candyman

    and the worst

    Mississippi Half Step.

And being a little less trip, and a little more rave I just can't stand listening to most live Drums and Space. Sorry can't do it :-(

And for a great band did they ever play some godawful covers:

Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds

Hard to Handle (post Pigpen wasn't worth it)

Hey Pocky Way (Brent had soul, but not Southern black soul. Uggggh)

    Sean
